    Default how much benadryl?

Mz Tilly is having allergies to the Oak. clear runny nose, sneezing, little congestion. If being inside doesn't help what is the right dosage? 20lbs weight.

We were out in the back yard, under the oak, with pollon bombs falling. I am allergic to oak, but the day was too perfect. I just felt like my head would explode. Took two benadryl and am pretty much fine today. She on the other hand is still blah. I wiped her down with wet paper towels.

Poor Mz Tilly. I hope she feels better soon. The dosage is 1mg per pound of body weight. Most 20 pound pugs are fine with a full 25mg pill though.

And, just a reminder for any non-US PV members reading this.... Benedryl in the USA is Diphenhydramine. In Britain and other countries Benedryl has a different active ingredient.... consult your vet about an appropriate alternative.

I just want to repeat Wonka & Nillas answer. My also Vet says 1mg per pound of pug.

Tinker takes doggie Zyretec at this time of the year and it helps tremendously. Her eyes get goopy, her nose runs clear and her ears get red. The Zyretec works for her.

Yes one 25mg. capsule or tablet twice a day. Ms. Tilly is getting up there, so daily benadryl wouldn't be a bad thing for her anyway....helps slow growth and spread of MCT's, and that's always a good thing. Since she also gets yucky tummy you could also give her 1/4 of a human Tagamet twice a day too, it not only helps with tummy, but works synergistically with benadryl on MCT's.

    Take care,

Thanks for the info on the benadryl. She's stopped the sneezing and nose is dry again. But her eyes are gloppy so will give her some.

For the tummy I've been trying to only give her the pepcid (famotidine) infrequently as possible since it alters digestion. Maybe nothing to be concerned with but I wouldn't take it all the time myself. So I monitor her eating and if she seems to be eating less I pop her a bit. Since changing to the ziwipeak her incidence of gas and grumbly tummy has really gone down.

I think Penelope may be having allergies. Her eyes are glassy and goopy and she is reverse sneezing a lot, especially when she is outside. We have a high pollen count this year. What do you think?

I've tried human Claritin...doesn't help much...going to try zyrtec for a couple days and see if that helps...if not, I'm calling the vet for doggie meds!

Lola sneezes, has a runny nose, glassy eyes, and I've even noticed her reverse sneezing :( BUT she also sticks her nose deep in the grass - silly dog...

I hope Mz. Tilly feels better!

**see if that helps...if not, I'm calling the vet for doggie meds!**

Everything my vet has recommended has been 'human' antihistamines ... don't think there is anything specific to dogs.
For KC's grass allergies - Claritin, Tavist, and Chlortrimeton worked the best ... but it takes time for them to get in the system and work well.
