Hi has anyone had any experience of pug pups with congenital defects & hydrocephalus? Odd question I know but a pup I purchased has these conditions and 3 vets have advised euthanasia.
She has congenital defects though like no fat stores, she weighs 0.7kg & shes 11 weeks. The slightest infection could kill her. She i
struggles to keep warm things aren't good for her.
any ideas what best for her ???? should i have her pts or not??? really dont know what to do???

It doesn't sound like she has a very hopeful future.
The hydrocephalus you mentioned, is that the same as PDE (pug dog encephalitis)? If I'm not mistaken, I believe that PDE is fatal.
What a hard decision you have to make. I'm sure you'll make the right one for the wee pup. Good Luck and prayers are with you.

Hydrocephalic dogs can live depending on how bad it is!
It sounds like this baby has multiple problems and will never be healthy........and possibly never be comfortable! If she were mine.......I would put her down.
Where did you get her from? Her breeder should have known about her being hydrocephalic!
I'm so very sorry, Kaz!
Hydrocephalus is "water on the brain". A build up of excess spinal fluid and pressure in the area surrounding the brain.
Normally the brain is cushioned in the skull with a layer of spinal fluid, when there is too much spinal fluid, it causes either a larger than normal head (in newborns) or if it affects adults, it will cause headaches, seizures, loss of function and even death.
They can relieve the pressure by draining off fluid with a shunt. However if the problem is accompanied by other congenital problems it may be most humane to euthanize. I'm not even sure they do shunts in dogs. I know they do in humans.
I'm sorry.
Take care,
Lisa

It sounds as though her life, even if she survives long, will be full of much suffering.....so sorry you're facing this decision. It may be best to set her little spirit free. {{hugs}}
Vets don't advise euthanasia lightly, in my experience, and if three of them are saying the same thing then in your position I would let her go.
