    Default Need advise about dander/bathing?

I live in NY and the allergies are horrible for me right . I know it's a combination of pollen, dander and pollen on the pups who are all over me every time I sit down. I'm on my second sinus infection and feeling super crappy. Waiting for doctors office to open so I can get some meds.
Do you all use any kind of wipes to wipe them down after they have been outside?
How often can I bath them?
Have any of you used Allerpet for dogs?

    Thanks peeps

It's really not good for dogs to be bathed very often. Certainly use a damp wipe when they come in from outdoors, and vacuum as much as you can.

I know about the bathing. That is why I ask. I only bath once a month right now.
Is there a good heap vacuum you could suggest. I presently vacuum about 3-4 times a day and sweep the floors everyday.
Man I feel like crap and they are shedding like crazy now. I have to invest in those sticky paper rolls. Hey, has anyone purchased a schticky yet?

If you can get a natural, organic, biodegradeable dog shampoo you can bath every couple days. Those are gentle. Back in the day, shampoos were coal tar based and harsh and drying. Dr Becker has a couple videos on bathing and has recipes for some rinses and foot soaks as well that you can use as needed. I like Earthbath.

I bathe Tinker frequently in the summer because she gets in the pool with me.I use an all natural shampoo and conditoner in one and it doesn't seem to dry her out.For yourself start using a nettie pot or saline sinus rinse, it works wonders.I had a sinus infection after the hurricane here in Aug last year, took meds almost all Oct,November and December.I started the rinses in January and haven't had any problems since.I went to an ENT and got allergy tested. Hope you feel better soon. I also put Tinker on coconut oil, probiotics and Dogzymes and her shedding is significantly less.

I'm personally not in favor of this, but a lot of people in our pug play group shave their pugs. They claim it cuts way down on the shedding and dander and helps keep them cooler in the heat. They don't shave them down to the skin, they leave 1/8" to 1/4". People who do shave their pugs (or any dog) have to be much more cautious of them in the sun as they can sunburn very easily.

Have you ever tried allergy injections? They really helped me a lot when I use to get them. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Sorry but I am vehemently against shaving pugs.

It cannot possibly cut down on shedding; the pug will continue to shed at the same rate but the hairs will be shorter. I cannot see how it can affect dander. I have heard shaving does not help with keeping them cool in the heat; dog hair has insulating properties and thus helps keep them warm in winter and cooler in summer.

When it's hot, I often cool the pugs off with a quick shower. I only use shampoo on them when I have to. I don't think rinsing them with plain water will hurt them any. Puppy wipes are easy and handy for quick wipe-downs as well. I keep them at the door for muddy paws, etc.
I have awful allergies as well, and have had a lot of relief using the neti pots and I also get a prescription for Nasonex to use in the spring/summer. It helps reduce the inflammation that can trap bacteria and cause pain and discomfort. Luckily I'm only allergic to pollen and cats, but not pugs.

I actually am on prescription meds, aster nasal spray and clarion. I use the neti pot too but can't use it too often as it dries out my nasal passages and causes other problems. I also have a very large heap air purifier in my home.
I just think it's pollen overload and the molting (is that how you spell it?). My boy is shedding like crazy. Too much for my system.
Ever since entering perimenopause my allergies are worse than ever.

I too will not shave my babies. What is a good natural shampoo?
