thought of something else here to make thing simple to understand
stand the pug up on his hind legs facing you...you sitting down and then turn the pug around and hold them against your chest
that is the best way to explain it...lol
will try to post a pic
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........

She is getting better but is still terrible. I put her harness and leash on her and attach her to my kitchen cabinets so she can't move. I can get her done quickly and for the most part easily that way. I've tried every other way and we both end up in a sweat. Maybe someday she'll be as easy as my boys.
    good idea too
as long as they are in the submissive spot they should do better

I like the idea of the pug against my chest.......it seems to calm them better
Zeus is a breeze like this and hard to believe after all the fighting with him before
even the groomer has never seen a pug as bad as Zeus........but I think we found a way to do this finally that works

Ok...thought he was upside down like "reverse spoons". That's how me and the black pug sleep! His head by my lap and his tail by my face.

LOL that would never do to clip the nails
no right side up and against you...
stand they up like sitting pretty on your lap and turn them around to you and hold them..
    works..
    hope this helps

This is pretty much how we clip Sir Puggles' nails. My husband holds him to his chest with Sir Puggles back resting on my husband's chest head up. I then clip his nails.

I tried this today by myself and it works! At first she squealed and wiggle, but clam down quickly. Clipped the first front paw, she nipped a little, but by the time I clipped the back she was very calm and let me clip with no problems. Thanks Pat for posting this

That's how we dremel the pugs nails. Tried the same position for clipping, and not a chance! Now we just dremel once every 10 days.

I remember watching Wasabi's Grandpa Dan clip his nails as a little pup. He was trying to demonstrate how I should do it, but made Wasabi yelp and bleed. Wasabi NEVER let us (or anyone else) clip his nails without a fight. I always thought it might have been due to his first clipping experience.

We initially tried to do this ourselves, but the scratches that he'd make on my arms were quite painful - especially after having clipped a paw or two. Unbelieveable. We stopped doing it ourselves, thinking it was causing too much distress for him and decided, although costly, to depend upon our vet's staff for this task. After several visits and tussles with him, they recommended we sedate him a bit before bringing him in for a clipping. He even pooped on someone once! It seemed funny at the time, but it was such an extremely stressful process for him. I wish I would have known about this approach then. I'm going to try it with Dobby and Sleepy.

    Thanks for sharing!

a picture would help indeed, just to make sure we all pick Up the right position before stressing them any further- Nail clipping seems to be a nightmare amongst Pugs!!!
