    Hi,

My Rocco had his first seizure exactly 10 days after his rabies vaccince. He was 3 years and 4 months old.

In my heart I will always think it was a trigger. And I had him blessed by a priest just a week before at our local church. What Irony. Needless to say I was pretty mad and disappointed with the Man upstairs for a long while. I now wear his St Francis medal that he was given that day.

I still cry everytime I read of another baby being lost to PDE. That wound will never ever truly heal for me.

    Hugs,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our boy Frank died 3 months after his vaccines, but I've never seen any data to attribute PDE deaths to vaccines, nor after numerous discussions with Dr. Greer personally did that ever come up as a trigger. I know all to well how hard it is to accept losing our precious babies to this horrible disease, and wanting to be able to find that one thing that triggers it, but I have to believe that people much smarter than me are doing all they can to find a cure and/or cause and hopefully in my lifetime I will be able to hear of it.

I am sooo sorry to hear of all the losses of great pug babies. I am new to being owned by a pug. I take my baby to get his shots next week and I am getting scared! What are the symptoms, things to watch for? I can't believe that something so horrible could ravage such a sweet breed. I am wiping my tears away as I'm typing. To all those who lost a beloved, stay strong and know that you brought joy to their lives for a little while.

As far as getting vaccines, my rule is just one at a time, even if we have to take multiple trips to the vet and schedule it on a day you can be with your pug all day. Some say don't do it on a Friday because your vet is closed on the weekend, our vet has a 24 hour facility so I don't worry about that. Co-Pilot didn't have any reactions to her vaccines as a pup, but at 3 years, she had a horrible reaction, her face swelled up really bad and it didn't happen until about 8 hours after the shot. I gave her a benedryl and then took her back to the vet, and then they gave hr a steroid shot. She was better within 24 hours, we were really lucky.
Discuss with your vet your concerns and what he/she thinks about giving Benedryl with the shot as a preventative.

    hey Pugbug,

I cannot tell you of the tears rolling down my face reading your post, nor should I. Our baby had a fit tonite. Eyes wide open, limbs outstretched and not responding to us in any way - touch or feel. He is 7 months old and my sister in lawy has witnessed something similar in him before but this is the first for us to witness. He was only at the vets yesterday and the vet was very happy with his breed and health.

I am terrified that our baby will leave us. Do you have any advice?

Hi, I too have a young pug (11 months) who had a seizure recently. Sometimes they just do have seizures - one or two and then never again. It can happen. My vet did a full neurological exam on her and she showed no other signs. My vet says that they can have one or two "for free" before he would consider doing anything aggressive in diagnosing or treatment (such as an MRI or prescribing anti-convulsants).

Just keep a close eye on your boy for a couple of weeks. As more time passes and there are no other signs, it is more likely to be "just one of those things" and not mean anything more ominous. Hope this is the case!

And just to hopefully alay your fears - PDE is much rarer outside the U.S. Not unknown, but extremely rare. Seizures are usually the LAST sign in a series of progressively more troubling things that you would notice. Your boy MIGHT be epileptic (don't go there right now - too soo) and if that is the case there is no reason why with good care and monitoring, as well as the proper medications if necessary, that he won't live a normal life.
