    Default Plants

I've tried to keep Caleb away from the houseplants. He'd have to jump pretty high to get to them. I also have a Swedish Ivy-I didn't see that listed, but the ivy mentioned also doesn't have a picture. Anyone know if that has bumpy or pointy leaves?

thanks so much! the site is great and I feel like a bad mommy too. Zeus has been known to chew on an Iris plant and there is an asparagus fern where he likes to lay outside. AND, he has been plagued with skin problems from day one...EEK!

Neither of the links worked for me. Is there a newer one?

    Default Toxic to Your Pug

Today I had my first experience with a toxic gum. Many of you may have read this already but I was unaware. My pug ate an entire pack of Trident gum, which has Xylitol. This is found in several new gums and candy. It is very toxic to your pugs and you need to get them to a vet ASAP. My little guy got in about 16 pieces of gum, horrible I know . So I took him in quickly and he was vomitting within mins. He got up about 14 pieces or so. I called the ASAPC hotline. They told me because of how small he was and the amount that was left over was not a good thing. He got his blood sugar checked and it was very low. Not only can it cause liver failure but it cause the body to release a huge amount of insulin. The liver failure comes later. He seems to be doing okay and has his blood checked twice today and will go in again tomorrow and also get a blood test again for his liver. It takes about one hour for the sugar to drop and it takes about 24 hours to get the liver damage. I never knew and it is in all types of gum! Look at your gum to be sure. I have friends who have also found it in their yogurt and other things. I cannot believe they do not mention that anywhere! Scary experience but even scary, what if I had not noticed that he had eaten the gum.....?
