    Default Lower eyelid "growth"

About 3 or 4 days ago we noticed that our Abbey had what looked like a little pimple on her lower eyelid right on the top next to the eyeball. Our 2 pugs had encountered some bees or yellow jackets - we first thought maybe that was a bee sting as Maya acted like she had gotten stung. Now it seems to us to be a growth or a pimple. It is growing slightly and today showing a pinkish coloration - previously it was blackish. it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Anybody else experience this and is it something to worry about? We've already decided to go to our vet sometime this week. Should this be an urgent visit?

Could it be stye? I would definitely get it checked out ASAP. The eyes are a sensitive area, and you don't want anything irritating them!

You should get it checked out because you never want to take chances with the eyes.

It's impossible to say what this is since we can't see it, but Pugs are prone to getting little non-malignant tumors on the rims of their eye and eye lid. Sometimes they grow and sometimes they don't..when they do, eventually they need to be burned off.

I'm not saying this is what it is, but because it's a possibility and because Pug eyes are vulnerable, you should have it checked out.

If it is a stye or irritation, try flushing the eyes with saline (like for contacts) several times a day. It's also good for their dry puggy eyes.

In my mind, anything eye-related means a trip to the vet, if not the opthalmologist. What seems to be a minor problem can escalate so quickly, it's just not worth the risk.

That said, Lemon has had little styes along her eyelid several times. One was particularly stubborn, and she needed to be on antibiotics for three weeks before it cleared up. They never seem to bother her, but I keep a close eye on them. I'd hate to see one open up and infect her eye in a serious way.

My pug puppy Disney got a stye on her upper eyelid, I took her to the vet, he put her on antiobiotic ointment. She was on it for a couple of weeks. It was pretty stubborn and looked painful but it didn't seem to bother her. Disney didn't like holding still while I put the antiobiotic ointment on her eyelid. I do watch that eyelid very closely now.
