Hello All,
I also have a pug eye question. My ten month old Disney has had a watery left eye for the past five days. She is also squinting this eye a lot. I took her to the vet yesterday and they checked her eye for scratches and such but found nothing.

They sent us home with Gentocin eye drops that I have to put in her four times a day. Its been 24 hours and it doesn't seem to be much better.![]()
Any tips or ideas on what it could be and how long I should wait before I take her back to be looked at again?![]()
My regular vet got married and moved so I saw a sub/traveling vet yesterday.I don't care for the remaining vet partner.

This morning at church I asked a fellow pug owner & another lady who does dog agility who their vets were. They recommended two vets so I am going to start taking Disney to a different vet.:-|
Thanks!!!

Gentamicin, the antibiotic they gave you, should kick in, if there's an infection in a day or two. Then I'd hot foot it right back to the vet. Did they do a fluorescein test when they checked for a scratch? You can also safely give lubricant eye drops between the antibiotic drops - just not at the same time 'cause you don't want to wash away the antibiotic faster than it would ordinarily dissipate. The lubricant (just get Genteal or something like that - not Visine!- check the active ingredients list) will at least make her more comfortable and they're sterile.

Thanks Bunches Viralmd!!!![]()
I don't know what a fluorescein test is ??? Please explain.![]()
She did turn her eye neon green with this paper strip looking thing and looked at it for scratches. She also looked at her eye in the dark a couple of times and rinsed it out in case she had something in it irritating it.

That strip of paper is part of the fluorescein test - it has a chemical which adheres to injured tissue and that fluoresces in UV light. So your vet did the right thing. But I'd go right back if she's not at least improved in one more day. Or ask for a referral to an ophthalmologist!

I came home from work today and my Disney girls left eye was worse. This is after almost three days of medicine. Cloudy grey spot on the eye.![]()
I immediately called the vet and of course they couldn't squeeze us inand they gave me the we are short a vet excuse. I am aware of this it was my vet that got married, moved, and left the clinic. I don't like remaining vet anyway. Upset I called a few other vets that were highly recommended to see if she could be seen. No one could see her until tomorrow.

I took matters into my own hands sucked it up and went to the $$$ 24 hour mergency vet clinic. Thanks goodness I did. Disney had surgery on her eye tonight.

She has an ulcer on the L eye, she has to stay at the vet until Thursday evening. The emergency vet was young, and wanted to treat her eye ulcer aggressively. Surgery tonight, medicine & serum treatment of her eye every 2 hours for the next 48 hours. If he doesn't see marked improvement within 24 hours she'll have to go to a ophthalmologist.
I asked the emergency vet tonight how the vet could of missed this on Saturday. He didn't have much to say but was glad that I brought her right in and didn't wait until tomorrow to have her eye looked at again.
Pray for my Disney sweetheart!!!![]()
