Hi! My Pug(1yr) Pugsley had a health issue that the vet doesn't know what happened. My Pug one day was not himself and when we touched him around the mouth he yellped. I brought him to the vet the next morning and the vet noticed his whole left side of his face was swollen. After $700 in x-rays and tissue samples the vet found there was no fracture of any bones, not absese(sp?) of any teeth, and no tumors. Also his brain was normal. So after a week of medication the swelling is down and he is happy again. But I don't know what caused the problem. Any one else out there had a similiar problem?
Oh that sounds horrible I would recommend seeing another vet for a secodn opinion. I have no idea what could have happened...possible allergic reaction to a bug bite? I am happy to hear thet Pugsley is doing better.

Sounds like an allergic reaction perhaps...any shots the day or two before?
Glad he's feeling better though...and welcome!![]()

No shots before the weird symptoms. I could tell the problem really hurt him because he didn't chew on his toys/bones and he could barely open his mouth. Maybe he ate a bee! the vet said no punctures/bumps on his head. Just curios if any else had a problem like this. THanks!![]()
My first thought is an insect bite... pugs and insect bites don't get along all that well.![]()

Always and forever missing her Oscar.
I recall someone posting about a pug having a bad time after a spider bite. I believe in his case, there was some permanent tissue damage. I'd wonder about a bug bite, reaction to a plant or something like that. Do you have any stinging nettles near you? They can be really painful if you grab them by accident. I imagine biting them or rubbing your face against them could cause a localized reaction.
Here's a link showing what it looks like and describing it: http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Pla...er/Nettle.html
Glad to read that he's feeling better by now, though.

Welcome!! It does sound like an insect bite reaction. Hope all is well now. I bet your wallet is still hurting though!
