    Default Pug Lost a Nail???

I'm asking this for a friend of mine. He has a 4 1/2 year old pug and when the pug jumped up on the chaise in the living room this morning he yelped really loud and when the owner went over and looked one of his entire nails was laying on the chaise and the pug was bleeding just a little bit. Any ideas on what he could do? I told him to call his vet, but I haven't heard back from him.

To stop the bleeding, put styptic powder on it. None of that handy? Try flour - it'll help, and will be ok.

Other than that, there isn't much he can do.

He should see the vet right away. The bleeding from this can be quite serious.

This happened to a collie I had, this was before ER vets and it was quite early in the day. I made them open the office and they vet said it was a good thing that I was stubborn because Duke was about to go into shock. If I had waited until regular office hours it would have been much worse. They had to put him under so they could stitch him up.

A visit to the vet is in good order. Even if the amount of blood was small to begin with it can still bust open again if he moves it the wrong way causing a serious problem. Stitching is probably needed to prevent this.

This happened to Emma a few months ago with her dew claw. It was at night so we rushed her off to the emergency vet. They cauterized it to stop the bleeding and then put a bandage over it which we took off the next day. I think a trip to the vet is a good idea.

This happened to Emma - she bled quite a lot but we put a bandage on and it seemed to stem it ok. We never did find the claw and it never grew back!
