Ok, I'm sure many of you have seen pics of Frank..he has more wrinkles than I have ever seen. Trying to clean them, gets me BIT. Seriously, not nipped at, he chomps on my fingers and proceeds to EAT the Q-tip. Any ideas, cause now that mommy has masterd clipping nails and cleaning ears, we no longer use the groomer every other week. I really hate to spend an extra $20 every week or so just to clean wrinkles.
Any ideas other than SEDATION??? lol

I feel for you. We are having issues with the wrinkle cleaning too. I wouldn't use the Q-tip, I think just a cotton ball is safer. I'm sure someone will have better advice, but the two things that are somewhat helping me are:
1. You have to be just a little firm. I am so afraid I'll hurt my baby.
2. TREATS, TREATS, TREATS
Oh, and I have been picking up Izzy a couple of times a day and just rubbing her face REAL lightly with a dry washcloth then tell her what a good girl she is and giving her treats.
Good Luck!

I use an unscented baby wipe, so when they fight it no one gets poked in the eye. I agree about the treats though, keep em coming and maybe your fingers won't look so good!

been??? don't know where I've been, but if Frank keeps up his latest shenanigans I'll end up in a loony bin. lol
Haven't tried baby wipes yet, was using Q-tips cause his wrinkles are so close and tight together

Try using baby wipes but having a treat actually in your left hand (assuming you are right handed) held above his nose. I get Snifter to sit and he sniffs at the treat and tries to get it and he is so interested in the treat that I can wipe the wrinkles and then release the treat. I need 2 treats, one for each side of the face.

This is how I do it:
Sit behind pug, pull back with right hand on top of head to open wrinkles up.
Wipe thoroughly with baby wipe and once a week Malaseb pledgelets.
Pulling back all the extra skin really helps. It also helps to keep them still -- at least mine sit still like that.

My vet recommended KetoClor antiseptic soap because Benny had conditions "ripe" for an infection to set in. Seems I wasn't cleaning thoroughly enough with just the baby wipes (boy do I feel guilty about that!).
I finally figured out how to do this will as little stress as possible - for Benny and for me. I now put a towel in the kitchen sink and then clean his wrinkles. SO much easier because he can't get away from me.
I use the KetoClor 2 times a week and a baby wipe daily.
Hmmmmm......does anyone have suggestions as to the preference of antiseptic soap or Malaseb?

For baby wipes -- make sure that they are unscented AND alcohol free.
I used to have a bottle of Hibitaine handy at all times, for wrinkles that were on the verge of infection (and also Surolan for infected ones) -- they don't make it anymore, now we use Endure at the shelter which is supposed to be the Hibitaine stand-in.

Thanks. I'll check out Endure. Hmmm.....do you recommend that over KetoChlor?Originally Posted by pebblesmom
