    Default Eye discharge

My pugs eyes are full of gunk in the morning. He has always been this way and been on antibiotics with no improvement. Is there an eyedrop or something for this?

Has the vet done a tear production test? If not, definately get this done. The gunk can be from dry eyes/ PK. Also, sometimes allergies can cause more discharge or an infection in the eye. Are you using drops/ointment in the eyes?

I would have your dog's eye checked...maybe by a specialist. That way you know what you're starting out with.

My specialist recommended Genteal Severe drops at least once a day for all pugs.....and sometimes twice a day.

    OK, Thanks

Do you know if any eye product that is safe for humans would be safe for a pug's eyes as well?

I think he might have some kind of allergic conjunctivitus. It certainly doesn't seem to be contagious because my other dog is fine.

Yes, anything topical is safe for pug eyes. You can use the genteal or something like Refresh PM gel - the gels last longer than drops so they're preferable.

Thanks, I have Tobradex...maybe I'll use that tonight and tomorrow till I can get to the vet Monday. I am noticing the right eye looks a little pinker than the left....but this is really only noticeable if you pull the lid up.

Please do NOT use tobradex. It contains tobramycin, which would NOT cover the most common cause of infections in eyes. It also contains dexamethasone - a steroid - which is NOT what you want to put on an infection and can potentially make it worse. Please go to the vet if you think there's an infection. If not, get some Genteal Severe or PM Refresh to use. And don't use your fingers to get the stuff it - it has to stay as 'sterile' as possible.

Oh, Well I used it last night and there was HUGE improvement this morning. I can just use the Genteal tonight...then I'll have some good feedback for the vet tomorrow.
