Question Random question: when are pugs fully grown?

My puggy is almost seven months old now, and I'm curious as to when they usually hit their adult size. I know they can range from 14-18 lbs or more, but that's still a big range. (She's about 13 lbs now.)

(It's not important... I'm just curious.)

I would say that they have hit their full growth at 2 years. I could be wrong however. Muscle development and such may vary over the years, but I think that by two you pretty much know what you've got size wise.

Tilly was fully grown in hight by 12 months, but she filled out and gain a couple pounds more by the time she was 18 months old. She's been that size ever since.

It depends on whether they're neutered/spayed. If a dog has had neuter/spay surgery, they're finished growing, more or less, by ten months. However, an unneutered or unspayed dog will continue to develop (increase in bone density, muscle mass, etc) until the age of two or so. If you look in 'Pug Talk' you can see a remarkable difference between the show pug and a neutered or spayed animal. The big head doesn't develop in the neutered/spayed dog, nor the degree of bone and muscle.

Thanks Alice--I forgot about the impact of spaying/neutering on development.

This thread is very interesting. I would say my boys (who were neutered young) were full size around a year or two. When I got Misty and she was 18 months, and not spayed, I had her spayed about 6 wks after I got her, and I swear she grew a little bit more after I had her-- I mean, BESIDES the weight gain!

Interesting. She's going in for her spaying this Wednesday, actually.

(She was actually supposed to go in LAST Wednesday, but you know how they're supposed to fast from 8:00 the night before? Yeah, well, no one told Maddie that, and apparently a nice breakfast of cat vomit was too enticing to pass up. Ugh! )

My pugs have hit their full height and length by about 9 months, but they do mature quite a bit after that.

I would have to agree with Jesse. My pugs were around 9 month also. But they all didn't fill out until they were over a year old. Well Gabby and Jill never really did fill out.

Gabby has some eye and face problems and the eye specialist gave us two option. Do surgery on her eyes and face when we spay her at 6 months old. Or not spay her until she is two years old and because her head would be growing more then a spayed dogs head would the probably would probably fix its self. Gabby will be two years old at the end of Feb. we took the second option and haven't spayed her yet. I am happy to report her head grew and fixed the problem she no long needs any surgery and will be spayed soon. So when you hear about intact pugs heads growing more in fixed pugs it is true!
