My #1 thought would be that an electric fan blowing directly at a pug's face would bother his eyes - and I probably think that because I have a hard time tolerating wind blowing in my own eyes, it dries them out quickly. If the fan was some distance away, I'd think it would help as long as the temperature wasn't such that the fan was just blowing hot air.
We never fail to have power failures in the hottest part of the summer and many nights I have manually fanned my pugs with a large piece of foam-core. That material makes a great fan, it is strong but lightweight.
Last Spring I bought two battery powered fans at Lowes and they were a blessing!

Those we have held in our arms for a little while,we hold in our hearts forever.
Someone in our pug meetup lost their pug 2 weeks ago at 25 degrees C after a car trip, and a neighbour lost their greyhound last week when the humidex hit 37. The GH wasn't playing, just walking, and fell over dead. It had seized the day before when the humidex hit 40+. I have become paranoid and Leto doesn't leave the house without his cooling collar, cooling coat, and water bottle!!! It's worse than dressing up in winter!!
If it's a hot day out, does it matter if they have water accessible to them? I always get so worried that it's too hot but think maybe he's ok since he's drinking. Is it still dangerous to be outside if it's a hot day for a long period of time?
Today we had our dog at the park and after about 20 minutes, he had water too, he started panting so heavily. He continued to even about 45 minutes after we got home. The heaviness let up a bit but he was still panting. I think we overdid it with him today.
I think it's just safer for pugs to stay indoors and would rather not take any chances. But then I get told I'm "being too much with the dog". I never know what to do. This is our first summer with our pug so I'm extra paranoid.
You are right that you should be extra careful with a pug in the heat. They can over heat and die whether or not they have water. They don't have the same ability as longer nosed dogs to cool themselves.

and missing Riley and Roxy, who are at the bridge.
Bojangles is definitely hating the hot weather. We got a ceiling fan and a smaller fan pointed at his play pen while we're at work. He's got plenty of water which I usually find empty by the time I come home. When I take him out for walks, sometimes he refuses to poop if it's too hot! He won't poop until maybe after 8pm when it's getting cooler. After every walk, even a short one, I give him 1-2 ice cubes to cool down with.
hello,
hot weather makes our body damage.
Dang it, I feel like such a bad puggy dad. Thunder had been outside alot the last few days over at my sisters....even got sunburn as I mentioned in another thread... that mistake wont be made again.

Pugs are sensitive to heat and humidity, and because of this it is important to be aware of the conditions outside, and how long your Pug is outside. Temperatures above 80-85 degrees can be hazardous to your Pugs health and have been known to cause heat stroke, which is potentially deadly.
is it cool that i get my dog groomed so she wont feel as hot?:)
she is really playful and iwant the best for her
That is so important to know. Now that my pug has to wear "dresses" to hide her burn scars I have to be especially careful. I just bought a water bottle with a bowl attached because I know she'll be extra hot this summer.

We have a doggie door. Sometimes Pookey will come in and she is hot to the touch. She is never panting hard. Will they know when it is time to come back in, or should I lock the doggie door for the summer? It has been really hot here in central Texas.
