Default Are peanuts bad for dogs?

I had half a bowl of peanuts sitting on my end table. Left the room for two minutes and the little bugger inhaled the whole thing! He seems fine, but I was wondering if I should be concerned.

I wouldn't think so, because a lot of dog treats have peanut butter. You can also stuff kongs with peanut butter.

However, were they salted? Not sure if salt is that good for dogs.

They're not the greatest. All peanuts have aflatoxin, which is a toxin produced by fungus, which grows on the peanuts. They're not wonderful for people, either. Very high in fat, as well.

Macadamia nuts are toxic for dogs.

And here's something I didn't know until recently. Peanuts and peanut treats fed to a dog owned by someone allergic to them can have dire consequences to the owner.
At our Pug Claws event, there was a owner who has a severe peanut allergy and one of the exhibitors was feeding peanut dog treats. The owner said that she will now not be able to have physical contact with her dog until the peanut treats have completely left his system. I would never have thought of that.

hey, BLANCHE! Nice to see you!

As a nut allergic person (but NOT to peanuts!).. I AGREE!! It's a killer! When I was adopting Tigger, I thought the foster dad was giving him nut rewards (they turned out to be Charley Bears which I had never heard of back then!) But I was PANICKED!

Being licked by a dog that has eaten a nut would have me in hives and probably worse!

Wow. I would never have thought that an nut allergy sufferer would have problems with dogs eating nut treats. That is really good to know.

Well, his poop will probably look like a "payday bar" or a "baby ruth bar"

lol, yep! It was very lumpy poo this morning, lol. On a down note, Kuma had a couple of bald patches on his elbows, and a couple of thin spots on his hind legs. I took him to the vet today and... demodex again. At least that's what the vet thinks it is, since he's had it before, and it certainly looks like demodex. She took three different scrapings and they came back negative, but she thinks it's either demodex and the mites just aren't showing up on the scrapings, or it's an allergic reaction to demodex, or possibly sarcoptic mange. Ugh! She gave him a shot of Ivermectin, and has me giving him a whole bunch of natural supplements from the health food store to build up his immune system. Hopefully this clears up soon.
