Question How quick do pugs grow?

    Hi everyone!

My husband and I have recently brought home our first puppy, Freddie.

He is 14 weeks old now. We picked him up when he was just over 8 weeks old. He grew noticably in the first two weeks but he hasn't in the last 4.

I have been looking on the internet for details of how fast pugs grow. I know they are growing until they are a year old but I was wondering at what pace?

Our friend has a yorkie that is four weeks older than Freddie and she is growing much faster. So I thought I would ask the pug owners - you are the experts!

    Thank you in advance,

Has your Freddie been to the vet for his puppy exam? He should be gaining
steadily so it may be time to have your little man checked by the dogtor!

    Thumbs up

    Thank you for your reply

He's been for his injections and worming and microchipping.

We took him to our vet the day after we brought him home for a check and he got the all clear.

He has been putting on the lbs - he just seemed to be growing faster before.

He eats well and loves his walks so I'm not worried.

    "Dogter" - I love it!

    Hey! Another Essex girl!

    Whereabouts are you?

My boy Snifter is 3 and my pup is nearly 12 weeks.

As long as Freddie is steadily increasing in weight (but not getting fat) then he should be doing just fine. Visible growth will come in spurts, I think.

Sounds like you are top of things and he's just at a plateau, give him a week
and he'll probably double in size.

Hang out around here long enough and your vocabulary increases by leaps
and bounds. The only problem, most people don't know what your
    talking about!

I didn't think there were many UK members - let alone another Essex one!

We are in Benfleet, near Southend. Whereabouts are you?

I am sure I will get used to the lingo!

    Witham.

And there are 2 other Essex members yet to make your acquaintance. H the P and Almandine.

We have get togethers from time to time. Interested?

Toby was in every 2 weeks for vaccinations and he usually grew 1-1.5 lbs between every shot, then it slowed down for a bit after he hit like 4 months. He was 3.3 lbs when we got him at 8 weeks and he is 8 months now and 18 lbs. He definitely had growth spurts, for awhile he was all legs! Now he's filling out a bit. We kept a close eye on his weight because as it went up the amount of food we were to give him changed, there was a chart on the bag.
My two fat pugs! Toby rescued April 25, 2008 & Betz rescued November 15, 2009.

Every single pug is different and there is no scale as to how fast they grow. It is completely based on genetics. I have had puppies that were 10lbs at a year old and by 2 years old were 15lbs. I have also had some that were 17-18lbs at 6 months old and never got any heavier. Weight and sized is also based on their structure and bone. Pugs with heavy bone are going to weigh less than those with finer. It has been my experience that most pugs are not done growing until about 18-24 months old. The first 6 are the most obvious. Just let your puppy grow and don't worry about it. They all have their own time clocks!
