Default Do your pugs "root" in their doggie bed?

When we brought Ana and Aubrey home as puppies, we had a doggie bed that they would both sleep in and roughhouse in. At one point, they got too crazy and began pulling the corners (under the bolster edges apart), so we put it away. Now at 4 months old, we wanted to try and put similar doggie beds into their crates. Ana is doing the same old "rooting" behavior with this one. Aubrey did for a minute or so, but then settled down and rested.

So, my question is...Will this behavior ever stop? Bitter Apple won't work because some of the behavior is digging with paws. ANY IDEAS HOW TO GET HER TO STOP???

Thanks in advance to all who respond!

Puppies love to dig and chew, I have come home to more than one destroyed dog bed when mine were little. I think they will outgrow some of that as they mature, mine did.

Could they chew it up to the point that they might swallow some of it? If so, I wouldnt want to leave them with them in their crates while we are gone.

    Some of them do!

I couldn't leave anything with one of my pups.....he'd eat it!!!

Most others will dig and lay down. If they dig enough to open it and eat the stuffing...put in a blanket or a towel instead of a bed.

MuShu destroyed several beds. The only thing I could figure out was that she hated the smell of the foam filling cause she would fervishly dig at foam filled bed pillows, sofa pillows etc. So, I finally got a small feather pillow, covered it with a dust mite cover that zips, then covered it with a pillowcase. That seemed to work. Oh, and I had to switch to a wicker bed for the pillow to go into because she would destroy the foam ones. Sheesh. Anyway, hope you can find something that works for you too!

Wally totally destroyed 2 beds by dig-dogging them. At the moment he's not damaging his new one, but it's probably a matter of time. He makes little holes and pulls out the fluff in long strings and swallows it.

Ozzy did that a lot in the beginning. The only bedding I've ever put in his crate were those little fleece throw blankets or just a couple of sheets in there during the warmer weather. He still digs it up from time to time but not like he used to.

Charlie loves to dig as well, but we have one of those beds that doesn't have foam in it....but he still digs at it...silly puppy :)
