Default *VID* Suggestions for keeping a psycho pug calm :)

Yoda is SUCH a baby....he hates being in his travel crate.
I actually have to sit on the back seat with him now days....I tried spraying him with water when he does this, Ive tried to car train him. His problem is not being in the car, if I sit next to him, he sleeps on my lap....its being cooped up that he goes bonkers

Aw, poor Yoda! We know you would never torture him!

How about giving him the best, most delicious treat in the world every time you put him in the crate? And then keep giving him the treats at intervals.

Repeat it a few times and give him that one special fabulous treat just for the crate.

I'v tried that....gave him chicken and even tried ham !!!! Its like he cannot NOT be on my lap or something.
I'll keep trying though, I feel that he's safer being in the crate rather than sitting attached tot he seatbelt. He hasn't been in the car since the vet, and for a looong time before that...too hot to take him anywhere...so maybe things have changed...we'll see :)
    Thanks Patricia!

A frozen marrow bone (or kong stuffed with unsalted, natural peanut butter) might be interesting enough to keep him quiet and calm for a car trip, but I have had a few dogs which were so stressed by the crate that they wouldn't even touch the bones.

A seatbelt restraint and booster seat might be better.

I look at risk vs. benefit - balance your real risks of having him unrestrained in your lap or the seat next to you, vs. the stress to dog and human with him in the crate or not taking him at all and make your decisions based upon that.

Good luck! So far he seems to have you well trained.

    Take care,
    Lisa

    I agree with Lisa....

Have you crated him at home at all?? If not, then you should do some crate work in the house rather than in the car.....

All mine are...and my sister learned the hard way. She had a dog that torn its cruciate ligament......and she could not confine her to a crate!!!! Did uses a baby gate and put her in a smaller area...but a crate would have been better for the initial healing.

I think crate training is also important cuz if your dog should ever have to spend a night at the vet.....it won't be an added thing to freak him/her out.

I have a booster seat for Kelev......and crates in my van all the time.
