Our puggies are going to be a year old soon. We feed them a slop mixture that we cook (lean ground organic turkey, brown rice, green beans, carrots and peas) and add in some bone meal (t. per pound of meat). We heard you should back off on the bone meal after a year. Is that true? If so, do they need any at all?
We also supplement with Organix Brand kibble, plain non-fat, organic yogurt and pumpkin, as well as other raw fruits and veggies for snacks.
Your help is appreciated!
They will still need bone meal or some other source for calcium. I don't know the ratio for puppies that are fed homemade diets, but I know that adult pugs need the right calcium to phosphorus ratio (approximately 1.2:1) for a balanced diet. Depending on the type of vegetables (some are high in calcium), yogurt and if they get any raw, meaty bones they might be getting sufficient Calcium already to balance the Phosphorus, but you'll need to take a really close look at exactly what they are eating to make sure.
