Hi folks! I've been meaning to post about our new edition to the family, Stella. A little before Christmas, our vet was telling us that an older fellow recently had a litter (by mistake) that he couldn't afford and was looking for homes for them. He was about mile away from us, so we decided to take Sophie, my only and dear puggie, over to see the puppies. What we walked into broke my heart.
The gentlemen was a hoarder and the place was a disaster. You could tell he loved his pugs, he had 5 or so, but the conditions they had to live in was sad. Mazes of boxes and very dirty.
He only had 2 left waiting for homes when we arrived, which I was happy to hear, so we set the 2 puppies loose. Stella immediately made it known that she was the one who wanted to come home with us. When we held her she would grunt over and over as if she was purring. I was still on the fence as to whether or not I wanted to take on the responsibility of a puppy, let alone another pug, since this was all so sudden. The deciding factor came swiftly after.
We put Stella down and she started her laps. When she came back over to see us her face was covered in dust and lint. It was in her mouth, eyes, ears... everywhere. Cleaning her up we saw she had fleas, a couple ticks, feces in her fur and what appeared to be an infection in her right eye. I wish I could learn how live in the moment like these little ones, she was still happy as ever and acted as if nothing bothered her. My wife and I knew we couldn't leave her there. I contemplated taking both, but it would have been more than I could handle and it broke my heart to leave the other one there. On a side note, the vet tech where we go ended up taking the other one, Lola, so it all worked out in the end.
Anyway, we got her home, cleaned her up and took care of her issues with a trip to the vet. She is all good now and such a happy, energetic and mischievous little girl!
Sophie, being an only pug for 5 years, doesn't think she's a dog. She's never had any interest in playing with other dogs, people are her thing. Dog activities are so below her station. We go to the dog park and she sits at my feet, wagging her tail, watching the other dogs but never taking part. Stella came in like a storm and Sophie's life will never be the same!
Stella wanted nothing more than to have Sophie as a big sister and was relentless in trying to play with her, or just be near her. It took about a week of Stella's persistence but it paid off. They are the best of buds now and I am amazed at how Sophie's behavior has changed! Stella taught her how to be a "dog". Sophie seems to have taken to her as if she is her pup. She is protective when other dogs get rough with her in play and cleans her a couple times a day. They are never apart now. What was a hesitant decision, turned out to be the best thing for my heart pug, Sophie. We are happy too, but its not about us anymore
I could keep going on and on about how special these 2 are and what they have done for us and each other, but I'll just get to the pictures.
Here is Stella!
Here she is before she came home with us (after we cleaned her face up!)
Second day at her forever home. She made herself right at home.
Sophie trying to figure out what the hell just came in the house
Sophie starting to give in to the idea that this nuisance isn't going anywhere.
Stella letting her know that she isn't going ANYWHERE!
You will play with me!
Well.... let me give you a sniff I guess...

Thanks for reading everyone! I'll see you soon!
We couldn't be happier with our girls, although I do look forward to her getting out of her puppy phase!
Thanks for looking everyone!

What a happy thread. She is very pretty in pink, love her bling.
Fantastic story!!
They are so cute. I think every single Pug should have another Pug around for company. The two boys we have are just great together. We rescued Benny and he has settled in and just loves the one we had before him, Gus. They are almost always together. Cuddling Pugs are so sweet.
Such a happy story in the end and the photos tell it all. Congrats on your new little girl.
We never touch people so lightly that we don't leave a trace.
What a double-happy ending, first when Stella came home and second when Sophie accepted her! Thanks for sharing!
