Default Tucker is crying & hesitant to Jump on the Bed

    Hi guys,

Lately Tucker has been crying and hesitant to jump up on my Bed & Couch, but eventually he will after a few attempts. I felt around by his front and back legs to see if he would yelp in any certain spots, but he did not seem irritated at all. Other than the hesitation jumping UP on things, he has his energy and runs quickly around the house, in the back yard and enjoys his walks.

He is 5 1/2 years old and active in all other areas. He just no longer will "jump" and balance on his back feet to get a treat, what could be bothering him in his joints?

I'd wait a few days (unless it's already been a few days) and take him to the vet if it continues. It could be just about anything. Wish I could help more.

I would have him checked out....He may have hurt himself!

I saw a little shitzzu at the doggy chiro......I asked why he was there. He was running around and asked me to pick him up! They smiled and said before he was adjusted.....his hip and leg hurt and he'd bite when people tried to lift him! I couldn't believe it!!!

Sunny will jump on my couch, but she refuses to jump into my car and can't jump onto my bed (too high). Has he been able to jump on your bed before? Maybe as he gets older it's getting harder to jump up that high? If this is new behavior I think to be safe I'd just get him checked out by the vet eventually. Good luck!

I would think a vet run would be order, ask for a check on his vision. If you want him on the couch or bed, build buy or fabricate a doggy step. Sometimes a hassock works nicely. And especially, a hassock will allow the animal to reduce stress on shoulders and front end jumping down. And reduce the chance for a mis jump and bad tumble which will hurt the back and neck.

That doesn't sound very good, maybe he needs to stay crated and rested instead of jumping everywhere, he might make whatever it is worse, i think a few days rest and he will be fine.

I agree that a vet run is on order. Better safe than sorry. It could be nothing, or it could be something severe.

It's strange, he has so much energy and often times he runs around the house like normal, it makes me question where his injury is. Today I took him for a ride in the car and when I asked if "he wanted to go for a ride?" he jumped down from the couch and shot outside, and RAN to the car, then jumped in the car seat.

So majority of the time he is fine, but in the middle of the night he woke me up crying because he couldn't jump back on the bed, and he's been jumping on and off the bed since his 1st few weeks here. :-)

    Any other thoughts?

Honest, the traditional treatment while waiting for the vet is to crate the animal. Many vets prescribe steroids (caution, they make a dog pee up a storm) but if you have the remotest idea that the dog is expressing intermittent pain as he seems to be doing------do not let him run or jump or zip around until a vet sees him. Somewhere on the forum is a long, sad account of a pug who languished before an astute vet diagnosed a fracture in a vertebral body in the neck. You don't want to go where this loving owner is now nursing along day to day his young pug. PLEASE GO TO THE VET AND RESTRAIN THE ANIMAL UNTIL YOU DO. Let us know what the vet says, please.
