You explained perfectly what I mean by single and double coats. Mine don't have two layers, they have one. Although they do shed it isn't as much as a pug with a double layer of fur.

Our smooth coated Chihuahua is shedding twice as much as our pugs!! and she is ONLY 4lbs!

You may think I am crazy when i say this, but I have Griffin shaved! It's really cute and no shedding!! His fur looks like peach fuzz! If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will so you can see.

Tiny has been shedding like crazy and we are coming into Summer down here. She appears to have two coats - one is soft like down and I suppose this is what keeps her warm in summer. Once all that really soft fur has gone, the shedding is not too bad.
