Default Someone has to stand up for the PUG......so might as well be me....just got off the phone

with the working dogs of Ontario. she is quite interested in what Max has accomplished and so on and has been talking back and forth to people in the dog world to try to understand him more. they did not come up with alot more then he is likely just very intuatvive and also very intelligent too. I said always knew a pug was intelligent... she said NO not normally. I beg to differ with her on that point.
she also said they do not use pugs for working dogs or seeing eye dogs or any other type of job like that and asked her why not. she said they are not the smart type like the collies and so on....arrrggg
told her what about the companionship of the pug. they are all about their owners and if any breed of dog is into their owners it is the PUG. she said she never considered that fact.....duh. I do not doubt for a minute that my pugs would be there for me if need be.....esepcially Max but Zeus likely too. they also would not go home with anyone else either......... told her they are a BIG DOG in a small package..lol.

so she said she will go back to her dog people and give the PUG some consideration in the future......
    YES finally they get it.........

I do not like the fact that a breed is called NOT so bright because of some set of standards...... I believe the bond is just as important if not more then the intelligence of a scale that is not worth squat without the bonding...to me anyhow.
oh well off the soap box and back to my smart pugs and their training for the day...lol

what better dog is help out someone than a PUG. Max has proven this over and over again even with the seniors and me too. and saving a life even she has to admit that a PUG did that......... Max is 100% pug.

would love to a MOUSE on her shoulder and HEAR the convo there this morning after the phone call.........go PUGS..is all I can say.
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........

    Good For You,
persoanlly I think my pugs are geniouses,
Lucy knows just where to put her paw to open our puppy gate,
Frank always makes sure to lay next to the bed of whichever of my children is not feeling well...
and sweet Piglet stands by the door gives out a little yelp (not quite a bark, just a squeek) to signal when she needs to go potty...
I've heard of lots of agility Pugs, I didnt even realize they got a bad rap in the working dog world
Go Girl I'm proud of you for taking the time to advocate for all of our Babies

if she had said it had more to due with the issues in pugs or the fact of the weather extremes and such could have understood her more..

oh well........stood up for the pug
    see what happens next

these dogs also go through 2 years of hard training so maybe that is one of her reason but she did not say that

I agree she needs to do more research pugs are very intellegent sometime hardheaded but still smart and wonderful compainon dogs. My seniors would never give up their Macie willingly. I don't know where I would be without my dogs they are a VERY important part of my life and the lives of others. Good for you Pat you go girl.

Good for you Pat. Max shows the error of their ways. Pugs are like people in that some are smart and some are not so smart. The difference between Minni and Ray is immense. Minni is very bright and Ray seems to be a big dummy. Of course, that doesn't mean he gives or recieves love any different. Ray is just as dedicated as any dog.

will be talking more to them in the future I am sure...
they were willing to place Max if I let them..lol so what gives with this...idea

the dog that dialed 911 also had years to training to get to that point...

it is alot of heavy duty training that goes into the service dogs/ working dogs
even the therapy dogs..lol like Max takes some training...
now they did agree that PUGS would make great therapy dogs due to their laid back nature...

they all work on the same unbrella......the therapy dogs and the working dogs/service dogs.....

I have seen pugs do agility too and so on.....even in agility they have to very focussed on the person that owns them as well.....and well trained and intelligent too.

also though did have a friend that her pug did fail basic obedience too.......maybe the age is a factor in determining this as well..

    the convo will continue......
for now I am happy with 2 very smart pugs....
one just a bit more intuative then the other

Zeus is very bright in the sense that he is very introverted......he actually does think things out before acting on something. have seen him on a number of occasions do things the other dogs including Max would not do......like get behind something to get out a ball or go under something to get the ball and so on..Zeus is not as easy to train as max though..... Zeus is great with his paws too...he can hold anything in them..lol

the point that I wanted to stress to her is the devotion of the pug to the owner......that is what stands out the most about my pugs. they are very very bonded

I believe Pugs are very smart, also. Point in case.......our cats are house trained and go outside to potty. When they are done and want back in we usually do not known it. We usually just wait at the door for them, but if we don't, Hannah does, and will bark at the door for us to open it and let them in. Of, course this is exactly what she does when she wants out, too. HOWEVER, it is ALSO what she does when she decides she wants the recliner to herself and one of us is in it.....she barks at the door, we get up thinking it is to let her out, or let one of the cats in.....but instead she runs and jumps in the chair. The first couple of times she did it we were astounded....and the look on her face said that she expected us to be!
