Today I am taking Bailey (16-17) and Zoey (15) in to the vet.
Bailey is thriving in all ways, her energy and appetite are good her coat and skin are good, but yesterday while holding her for the groomer to have her nails clipped, I noticed she has developed the tell-tale heart(beat). When feeling most dog's heartbeat with your hand on their chest, it should not be super easy to feel (unless they are stressed). It is a light sensation on your hand. In dogs with heart murmurs or heart problems it tends to be a pronounced heavy thump. This was what I felt on Bailey yesterday that I have not felt with her before. Hopefully a little heart med and/or lasix and she will be fine.
Little Zoey came to us very sick, she recovered as most of you read previously. However she is very fragile, with chronic bronchitis/COPD. She is too fragile to undergo anesthesia and have a much needed dental. She is even too fragile to be restrained and have an anesthesia free dental done. her teeth are totally rotten, we have all known this. Likely every single one needs removed. I put her on a course of antibiotics every 4-6 weeks to kill the infection that continuously grows there. She is VERY resistant to having her mouth examined or even touched and panics and struggles, so we don't push it to avoid stressing or hurting her.
Lately I have noticed that when she sleeps, she leaves behind small blood smears. It is not frank blood, it is diluted with saliva, but blood nonetheless. I have attributed it to her bad dental health. It is getting worse, sometimes she drools long strings of bloody saliva. She still is very eager to eat...as long as it is her beloved canned tripe and potato, but I am having more and more trouble keeping weight on her, she eats three huge meals per day now, but still you can see her ribs. She poops 4-5 times a day because of all the food, but no weight comes on. I notice she is weaker and more unsteady and her head tilt is worse. I am afraid we may be dealing with an oral cancer or decay of the upper jaw from the rotten teeth. So we will see if the vet can get a look or if he feels that knowing is not necessary and just keeping her comfortable and giving her pain meds until she is no loner enjoying life is the best option.
Please spare some thoughts for the Precious Princess and Miss Bailey.
Take care,
Lisa

Prayers for both Bailey and Zoey.My cat when she was 16 began having severe dental problems and when she abscessed a tooth she would have that bloody drool.Luckily she was in good enough health we had most of her teeth extracted and she lived another 2 years. Poor Zoey that must hurt and so unfair after all she's been through. Hope they can get and keep her comfortable.
