    Default good or bad sniffers?

Li'l's sniffer seems to not work. it takes her forever to smell for something when she's on the prowl. she can be standing on top of what it is she's looking for, and not even realize it's there for a min or 2.

do pugs normally have sniffing problems? she has the yorkie nose, so they say her airways are good & open compared to a full-blooded pug's nose. but i wonder sometimes since she can't seem to smell things like she should.

just curious about the norm for puggies & sniffing.....

I rather thought it was because of poor eyesight. My MuShu can smell that something is right around her, but can't seem to see it!!! Anyone know why our puggies can't seem to find the treats quickly?

Tinker tracks things all the time but like MuShu Mom I don't think she sees that well.

Wally's nose didn't work at all till he was about 9 months, then something clicked. Leto is just starting to sniff now, at 3 years old.

Mz Tilly sniffs well and can see alright (though a little PK). She is watching TV right now, was barking at the bikers earlier. She can smell the ham before the package is opened.

I gave my grandson a few packages of a special beef jerky for Christmas. It was in a sealed bag, wrapped in several layers of tissue, packed in a box, and Christmas wrap. Benny had no problem selecting the gift with the jerky in it and ripping through all the packaging and sharing his find with Gus who proceeded to help him gulp it down before getting caught by my daughter who was just in the other room. I'd say his sniffer works just fine.

Joy definitely does not have the sniffer that the terriers have, BUT it does not matter what treat you offer her, she is gonna sniff it good before she puts it in her mouth.

Roxy can smell anything from a mile away. maybe it is the pit bull in her? I know someone who had a blind dog and he could be sniffing be right on top of it and it takes a few seconds before he realized it was RIGHT there.

Flatfaced dogs don't have as good a sense of smell as some other breeds, but it's still very keen. My experience is that they may have to be taught to use their nose instead of their eyes. When Winston was small, we did lots of excercises to encourage him to use his nose. Now he always uses his nose rather than his eyes when looking for treat on the ground.
