9Likes so today was a gorgeous day. this morning I had to do some personal banking and such so went to see the seniors this afternoon with Max instead.
well the lady told me that one of the ladies ..that is 99 wanted to see Max in specific today. that is not unusual some do in room visits and not in the main room and that is ok. so we go there......
in the room is her daughter and her husband.....the husband is 85 and her daughter is 81. both are in great shape and look wonderful.
I thought she wanted to introduce Max to her daughter and husband but NOT at all. she asked me told Max close to her and sit on her bed. I did that and Max put his head in her lap in her chair..that sits right beside the bed. she told Max that in 1919 on this day she lost her brother. he died of mengetitis....because it was an infectious desease they buried her brother in a cotton sheet and in a cardboard box. no funeral was had..no mourning at all. she had just lost her Dad to a tragic accident 3 months before that. her dad was 29 and her brother was 2 the day that he died.
she asked Max if he thought her brother went to heaven......Max did the head tilt......... and then the sobbering started..and the daughter crying and her crying and her husband crying...me crying too. the staff lady in charge was there crying too. wow wow emotional plus.
SHE HAD NO TOLD a soul in the world but MAX about her brother........NO ONE at all
Her daugher said Max is more then special like her MOM said he was...........he is indeed a therapist and an angel. she feels he was sent from a higher power to be with the seniors for this reason.........to share and help with the hidden trauma.
you can imagine carrying that along in your heart for all those years and not telling anyone that you were soo hurt......
we went on to see other people but to be honest I was no longer into it today.........I was shocked and mentally exhausted. Max on the other hand was in a good bubbly mood.
we are back now but Max will get a special hug tonight for this today. she will rest good tonight for sure.......
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
we did stop to see John on the way out today.........and he is doing ok but wow just wanted my bed......lol after all this and OUT. it is very draining on the body for me to go in there sometimes
but this is what a therapy dog does or a service dog for that matter
brings out feelings.......good and bad
good thing Max can head tilt now makes him all the much better therapy dog too...for listening.........love the head tilt.........the seniors thought at first he had kink in his neck..lol. told them it was a pug trait
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
Boy Pat we both had emotional day with the seniors Macie and I went for our visit last nite and Mrs. Margaret one of her favorites was on the couch and she was crying Macie got right up beside her and she petted her and told me that her boyfriend Mr. Larry another of Macie's favorites his family had moved him to another home and she was heartbroken we spent extra time with her last nite and promised a room visit on Fri. anything that will brighten their day she had me crying when we left. This is difficult sometimes but they all look forward to time with Macie. And Mrs Dot still has not come around I think she just likes complaining for the attention. We have a new lady she is from Poland and she is slowly making friends with Macie.
I am a psychotherapist and I think this is so wonderful! Bless you both for doing this. Pets are such wonderful therapeutic tools--people feel safe telling them things they wont tell me :) Which is fine, as long as they can unburden themselves. What wonderful stories.
there is something about Max that brings them out ..........stories and more stories..it seems.
the one time more then a year ago I tried Max out on my neighbour to see how he would do as a therapy dog. this guy was paralized from the neck down and in some huge big motorized chair. Max was still not heading tilting but he sat and listened to him talk to him..he could not even pet him...really sad case and only in his low 30's. he told Max all about the problems and all about his past pets and even where he planned on being buried someday. the live in nurse said she learned more in 3 hours with Max then she did in 10 years taking care of Mike. pretty impresssive.
dogs are non judgemental and I guess they just spill it all out.
I am sure Thersa has a good night sleep last night
the lady called from the home here last night and asked me HOW does a dog do what Max can do......told her just gotta be a pug..lol and we just laughed it off. there is no real reason for Max being what Max is.......other then he is cut out to do this and his personality too helps. the head tilt sure helps too..lol in people talking to him. so glad he started to do that.
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
there is a disabled lady working at the home when I took in Max yesterday. she is not on staff I do not think......just doing some rehab work there and Max totally adores her.
we get the odd new resident along the way too..........never had any leave yet since I have been there and no deaths within the home..thank goodness
it is tiring and stressful for me somedays ...I just drop and take a snooze for a bit when I get back.
glad that Macie is able to help the seniors there
good thing there are pugs like Max and Macie out there for this
