One thing people keep saying to me is "why would you get a small breed dog, they won't be able to be a guard dog for your home, small dogs don't care as much for their owners as big dogs, etc"...
Tuesday night around 10pm not long after my boyfriend had left for work, I woke up to Otis whining and barking and throwing himself around in his crate, which is unusual for him because he is normally always quiet all through the night.. I ignored him for a few minutes thinking he must have just heard a dog or something on the TV... (I always leave it on at night). Anyways, after a few minutes finally I got out of bed to let him out thinking he must have to go outside, and when I got to the door I found that someone was in my front porch trying to pick the lock to get into my house. I found later that my basement window had also been partially kicked in. Thankfully when they saw that I was there they took off, I was home by myself. I've never felt more lucky to have Otis because otherwise I may not have woken up before they managed to get in and who knows what would have happened. Robberies have begun happening in my city multiple times on a daily basis, which is especially dangerous for a women staying alone at night. Now I can tell people that small breeds are every bit as loving and protective of their homes and owners as big dogs, and I'm so happy that he was here for me! I will most definitely be having an alarm system installed this week.

in the middle of the night.......got up to pee and Zeus tripped me and pinned me to the floor and sat on my back.....lol
they are tough when need be
and will bark if something gets to them
