HOW to get rid of the HYBRID VIEW on threads...annnoying

I keep getting all the threads starting with this hybrid view
no idea how it started
and wander if there is a way to get rid of it
posted it here in case I am not the only one that is getting this

Right hand side, towards top there should be the dropdown 'Display'. Select Linear mode.
