    Default worming question

    Li'l has tapeworms.

I've given her some worming medicine that i bought when we first got her last yr (the expiration isn't for a few more months, so it's still good). this medicine was picked up at a farming store.

with tapeworms - is this something that i can treat with this kind of medicine? or are tapeworms something that needs an Rx from the vet?

i just want to be sure, before having to take a sample in, etc, and incurring the costs associated with this, rather than treating it myself, if thats possible, using the meds i have. the box/bottle doesn't really say what worms it treats. i just know the vet, when we first got her, told me it was the right kind of meds to give her at the time of, for prevention, since she was still so new.

    thanks.

The ingredient praziquantel is for the tapeworms. This can be bought OTC. Usually OTC wormers will have 2 or 3 different ingredients to cover a couple of worms like Praziquantel and Pyrantel Pamoate.

thanks so much for the advice! i guess it's going to be a time process thing then. i wormed her like just over a week ago, and i'm still noticing the passing of them. like only one per stool. she seems perfectly fine otherwise.

    again, thanks so much!

there are a couple different species of tapeworms, depending on which species it is fenbendazole may catch them too.

    Take care,
