So, I am walking the boys around the dead-end like I always do. By the way 4 out of the 6 houses on the dead end have dogs. All of a sudden my neighbor's landscaper says "Maybe it is just me, but I don't think you should be walking your dogs on your neighbor's lawn." Mind you I am standing there clearly with 2 bags filled with poop. I said "Well it is you, the neighbors walk their dogs on my property and I don't care." He said "Well even if you clean up I don't think it is right.". I said "I really don't care what you think, and honestly it is none of your business." So, I stayed out there extra long walking the pugs all over the lawn he had just finished. It is my next door neighbor's who have a Bichon. They walk Max on my lawn and I on occasion take care of Max... Let him say something to them... I am so ^&*() MAD right now!!!!![]()

Long live the "NWH" memory!!!
That sucks - I have neighbors like that too.
I just moved and I live on a street with all new houses. It is also a dead-end street and I like walking Pugsly to the end of the street where there is some city-owned land. We don't have our landscaping done yet, so I have to take her for walks several times a day. Anyway, Pugsly was peeing on the edge of the last house's yard, and this guy comes literally running out his front door, like he has been watching us the whole time. "Uh, clean after your dog". I also have the baggie in hand, which I wave at him and say "she's PEEING!". He says "well I don't want her doing anything on my lawn". Nice first impression of my new neighbor.
I always walk around with the plastic bag in hand so everyone knows I clean up after Pugsly. I was walking by another house and the old woman just stared at me out the window as Pugsly sniffed the edge of her yard. The next day, there was a nice sign out front: "I love my yard, I'm sure you do too. Be a good neighbor and pick up your POO".
People really need to get a life!
Sorry you had a bad morning!

Sheesh-if the landscaper ever owns your neighbor's house, then maybe he should care. Till then, maybe he should just shut up. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he was coming from a "urine on the grass can damage it" type viewpoint, but still-if no one else is concerned about it, why should he care.
Too bad people cannot spend more time keeping their mouths shut! The good thing is that your day will def. get better after that![]()

Even still, like you said - he isn't the owner and it isn't any of his business. Two neighbors use this landscaper and the one next door to me is very unhappy with his work. They are in Ireland, but when they come home I am going to be sure to tell them about this... And even if urine ruins the lawn - discuss it with the owner - and my next door neighbor isn't going to care...they have a dog... Until they learn how to use the toilet -tuff. He just needs to shut-up!!!Originally Posted by tocents

LOL, I take a bag with me as well for Barney's walks. If he goes on our front lawn (which I do encourage) I don't pick it up-it's my yard but I'm waiting for someone to drive by and say something anyway. I do try and make sure that he doesn't pee on anything important (such as car tires or trash cans that people put back into their garages simply because some folks don't like it. At our house, every morning the pugs run out into the garage and mark on the car tire (they run out there when we get their dog food)![]()
One morning he tried to lift his let on someone's newspaper and I had to scoop him up in a hurry!

Sorry- On this one I'd have to agree with the landscaper - it may not be his place, but I see his point.
MY dogs don't use the front yard for a bathroom- why should anyone else? It's one thing if the dogs are playing together (we ALL have dogs in our 'hood) and someone needs to go, but walking on a leash??? Not in my yard!![]()

The point being, it wasn't the landscaper's PLACE to make such a comment. sure, he has his opinion, but it's not his property. sounds like HE needs a muzzle.![]()

In Chicago, the grass on one side of the sidewalk belongs to the homeowner, the grass on the other side belongs to the city. So it's considered good etiquette to stay on the city side. Still, do people break the unwritten rule? All the time. It's really frustrating. We work hard to make our front yard look good! If I was paying a landscaper, I think I'd appreciate him saying something. But, um, I know that's not going to help your mood on this Monday.
It may be the difference between renting and owning. I never even noticed -- let alone cared about -- the grass when I rented. Plus, you seem to have an understanding with your neighbors that he's not privy to.

Where I live, houses have lawns, then there is a sidewalk, then there is a "median strip" of grass between the sidewalk and the actual street. The homeowner is responsible for the grass in the median strip, but the town plants and maintains trees there, and that's where the storm drains are cut in as well. The few mailboxes in town are located on the median strip, as are the water connections, fire hydrants and any street signposts. It's not a thing of beauty, to say the least.
I never let Otto do anything on the actual lawns, because I understand people being protective of their plantings. It's difficult when people go ballistic when a dog pees on the median strip grass - where else is he going to go? The cars in the street are all exceeding the 25mph speed limit, and the joggers and bicyclists are out there as well. It's dangerous to try to walk in the street itself. I always pick up after Otto and don't let him pee on newly-planted grass or trees that have just been put in, but some people take the idea of "their property" to the extreme. These same people don't seem to pick up any trash that blows there, nor to take much care to shovel the snow and ice off their walks in the wintertime, so I don't have much patience with someone who comes swooping over their lawn fussing if a dog is peeing at the very edge of the median strip grass.
In any event, it wasn't his property and your neighbors have a dog of their own. Let them be the ones to complain, if a complaint is justified. And that's one landscaper that will never get your business, I'm sure!

We also have a lot of open field areas that don't belong to homeowners (undeveloped land) so it's not like there is no where else for people to walk their pets...
