not that i am going away any time soon, but i found a brochure the other day at a pet boutique that was offering home boarding for pets. i'm pretty excited about this because it says the dogs get to bring their own toys/food/blankets and they get daily walks/playtime and 24 hour companionship.
it looks like a good company. they are fully insured and bonded. obviously, i would meet with them first and introduce them to my boys to make sure i felt comfortable with them.
anyone ever try home boarding? how did it work out? we don't have a lot of famiy in the area. not many of our family like dogs much anyway! i would figure it would beat leaving them in a kennel. my little yorkie gets too stressed out in kennels - i think because of all the barking!
Just my personal opinion: I'd cancel a trip before leaving Lemon in a kennel. I know she'd be way too stressed without nearly constantly companionship.
We tried home boarding for the first time last year. It was fantastic! This woman lives with her partner and two dogs, including a super-cute pug. She limits the boarding to three other dogs, and they get to do everything her dogs do... walks, trips to the beach, etc. She encouraged us to call her every day, which of course we did.It was really fun to hear someone else discovering all of Lemon's little quirks. And when we went to pick her up 9 days later, I barely recognized her! She'd lost weight from all the exercise. Next time, I'd probably pack some extra food.
We got lucky. Our regular dog walker had bailed on us two days before our trip, so in a panic, we found this woman. I wasn't able to meet her beforehand, so I talked to her on the phone for a long, long time 'til I felt comfortable. Obviously, I'd recommend meeting -- preferably, long before a trip so that you can be really objective.
Good luck!

i know! i hate leaving them, too! but we will surely have vacations in our future... the home boarding sounds like a good idea. i'm going to try to meet the people that do it.
i wish i could take my three babies with me when i go away. makes vacation time stressful now!
I know, it doesn't feel like much of a vacation when you can't be with your babies.![]()
