Default Lola and I are melting...........

It has been extremely hot here the last couple of weeks. Today when I left for work at 1:00pm, the temp inside was 86 degrees with 5 fans blowing. My Dad's townhouse is not allowed to have central air and it is a freakin' oven. I can't open the windows or doors as it just brings in the heat. I have been worried about Lola, so today on my break I purchased a portable AC unit. I thought I would be able to hold out until my move, but Lola and I are suffering. I got home at 11:00pm and promptly got busy unpacking and hooking it up. I blew a breaker, lost the tv, got it fixed and now when I go off to work tomorrow I won't be worrying about my sweet little Lola and I have a new 12,000 BTU portable A/C for the new place. Got it for half price with employee discount at work and extended warranty!!

I totally understand. This has been one HOT summer. We've had 30 plus days at 110 degrees plus! We do very little outside except in the early morning hours. AND its out for a quick pee and right back in. Not fun. Glad you have everything in hand plus you will be really happy in your new home.

Years ago, in Dodge County, Nebraska, I learned about doing everything in the early AM or even before dawn. Wish I could say the cafeteria line ran smoothly with people to sleepy to hold their trays.

We're at a comfortable 72 degrees and dropping this AM, and now I know when I go off to work this afternoon, Lola won't be melting. Although for some strange reason, when I get home from work, I open the door and she comes running from upstairs. It's twice as hot up there but that's where she goes when I'm at work. Going to try and babygate the stairs today so she can't!

What we won't do for our babies. I am always more concerned for their safety, health and comfort than my own. Glad you were able to get an a/c. Couldn't live without one here in Florida.

I just took back our 10,000 BTU LG portable air conditioner to Home Depot. But, you being in Canada you probably don't have the humidity like we do here, I live near a river so it's steamy and it would only get cool on the dehumidify setting. Plus it could have been that my neighbor doesn't cool her unit. Just be careful, I found out the hard way some of those units are not energy rated (if that's the correct term) my electric bill went from being $60 a month to $125. Glad you got some air it been bad here all summer. I use a tension rod with a sheet & baby gate to block off rooms from the pugs and keep rooms we're in cool, that might help to

It has been very very hot here this summer I leave the central on 77 during the day and a small fan blowing on the Pugs. They are in the really large laundry room when I am not home on a soft down comforter, if they should get warm the floor is tile and stays cool. They have a nice walk in the mornings as we get up at 5:15 they have 15 minutes of front yard time since for some reason they prefer pooping there (whatever works) when I get home I am melting my truck does not have a/c. We rush out they pee and poop really fast the deck and cement around the pool are really hot, so hhey have been going to the little flower bed next to the house since we weeded it at least the soil must be cooler.

Glad you found a solution can't imagine no cool air!

I have hunkered in to running a dehumidifier in my UNfinished (rock wall, dirt floor of pavers (like big bricks) and dirt) basement. It pumps the water from the air into my sump pump (which never trips - never gets enough water into it to trip)... and we are down to 52% humidity from 75... Sigh. Elec Bill up, for sure!
