    Default What do you think?

I am not really sure where to post this so I thought maybe here if its in the wrong place feel free to move it.

I want to state I am in no way affiliated or have any contact with MN div of MPR anymore as I was kicked out of the group. (after a foster killed my kitten)

Anyways, we recently had a post on our meet up board from the co founder of the rescue who is also the leader of the meet up.
They are asking for donation on getting this little pug puppy help. He needs a hip replacement. He comes from BYB, who are asking the rescue for help getting the money he needs to get the surgery. Anyways, I am in no way shape or form wanting to contribute to back yard breeding. She has two pugs (male and female) and a mutt living with them, none of them are fixed. She says they can't afford to fix them, but are saving up the money for that. I feel horrible about this little puppy, they say the mom stepped on him when he was little thus hurting his hip which now needs to be replaced. But putting money in there pockets to get this little guy fixed doesn't solve the problem of the BYB.

I know 1st hand that people can fall on hard times and not be able to afford there dogs surgery, crap happens and I love the fact that we have a great community of pug people that can and will help. But what happened to me was a freak accident I couldn't have helped, Buck got out the door it happens to millions of people. But in this situation it could have been prevented, she could have had these guys fixed and not bred them. I mean come on you know when your female is in heat, and when they are in heat you separate them from the males.

What would you do in this situation, donate to the cause which is getting this little guy fixed while they say they are saving up to get all the animals in the house fixed. I mean if they don't save up fast enough another breeding could and probably will happen, so you just put more money in to a byb hands?

These breeders are keeping this puppy not giving him up to the rescue, they just want the rescues help in raising funds.

No way would I send them money... I would POSSIBLY send money to their VET to get the dogs neutered, but only if it for sure got earmarked for that. They can deliver the HURT puppy to a bonified pug rescue and the rescue can decide about the puppy.

I am sorry it sounds hard-nosed, but that is what I would do.

I think that any accident that happens could have been prevented by choosing the correct decision in the first place. I also think that it is not my place to judge what other people choose to do with their money.

I'll just tell you what PugSavers would do...we would get the surgery for the pug ONLY if they turned it in to rescue. I know it seems harsh, but if they truly care about the dog, then they would turn it over to rescue. Rescues are not a grant organization for people who can't afford to take care of their animals. There are circumstances where it is OK to help the person with PERSONAL funds (ie little Mr. Buck), but I disagree in helping with personal fundraising unless it was a foster person or big supporter of rescue...certainly not a BYB.

Yep, sorry but unless this little guy was surrendered to the rescue...I wouldn't be willing/able to help. I may be cold hearted but I couldn't in good conscience give money to a back yard breeder.

Thank you for all your replies, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way out in left field about this, I believe the same way you all do.

I'm confused, is this dog owned by a byb or was he originally from a byb?

Don't take this the wrong way, but how is this all that different from what happened with Buck? Both were accidents.

Have you spoke to the vet involved?

I'll have to quote myself for the purpose of this.
All things happen for a reason. We choose to call them accidents, when in reality it is because of something that we, ourselves, failed to foresee.
I.E. A female getting pregnant because we are too stubborn to get everyone spayed/neutered (me) Momma dog stepping on the pup, causing damage to it's hip (the person asking for help) A pug running out the door to be hit by a car because someone didn't have enough sense to know that it could happen (---) A kitten getting killed because someone didn't have enough sense to realize that you don't put a new kitten, which you have no idea of it's nature together with a foster pug, whom you also don't know of it's nature (---)

My point is this, If it isn't your money, why is it your business who helps the hurt pug. We have all made mistakes, most of us learn from them, accept responsibility for our inadequacies and try to pass the knowledge on to others instead of blaming other people for our own stupidity.

Whats different is I didn't breed Buck. I didn't put mom and dad together to see what happens.

And no one that I know of has talked to the vet.

My thinking is, ok so we help play for this little guy, thus leaving more money in this byb hands to do what breed and breed some more. She says she is saving up to get the male dogs in her house fixed said nothing about getting the female fixed. I am not a byb that is what is different about this. So we are told not to buy from byb, and what not but isn't this supporting a byb?

Its not that I don't want to help because believe me I do but, I don't want to support more byb.
