    Default 50lb PUG? (Doug)

Ok, so I posted about us in the M & G section, but I need some authoritative advice on the newest member of our family, "Doug."

Ooh, sorry that is such a big pic!

Anyway, he looks pretty much like any other pug I've seen, but the pictures are tricky... he's actually about 45 lbs. He's not fat at all, but big. The rescue said he was a Puggle, but I've seen several puggles (even saw one last night at football practice) and he is WAY to big to be a puggle! His ears don't look like puggle ears either and his muzzle's too short. His tail is a touch longer than a pug's tail, but still flips up in a loose curl across his back.

He's twice the size of our senior pug, Rita, but still smaller than our boxer, Cleo.

This may be a long shot here, but do you think he could be a Poxer? ;) Maybe he's just a mutant pug?

He's a great fellow, and we love him already. I was just curious as to your breed guess.

It's kinda freaky just how he looks exactly like a pug - only bigger. We were really surprised that he was still available for adoption! Russ put in the application and got a call back within the same afternoon. We just couldn't believe this guy didn't have a dozen applicants! After speaking with his foster mom, he did have other applicants, but when they found out how much he weighed, they backed out! He's perfect as far as we were concerned. I wanted another boxer, and Russ wanted another pug, so Doug was the perfect blend (although he sheds more! ).

Oh and his tail curves in a pug coil - just a loose one...

Maybe he's 3/4 pug? Like a pug bred with a pug mix?

WOW! Big fellow. No idea what he could be mixed with but he looks very puggy as you say. I like him.

Can fawn pugs have a tinge of red in them? I think Doug does a little.

His eyes, snout and nose look very pitbull-like to me. His body and face shape look very much like a pug. It would make sense if he is mostly pug with a touch of something like a pitbull.

Wow, that's a great guess! We have our share of PBs around here too. Many are in the local rescues. It's entirely possible, and the body style could match too. It won't make us love him any less (I love pits) but it would be good to just keep an extra eye on him around other dogs. He's fine with our pack right now, but he's probably not reached his sexual maturity yet either. Good thing he's neutered!

Not so sure about the Lab. 'Tis possible as Labs will mix with just about anything. However, Labs have strong traits, and here, the Pug traits have won over. I think he'd have bigger, floppier ears if he had lab in him - and a more rudder-like tail. Would certainly cause his size though!
