Hmmmm, well Rosie's name was picked out when she was about 2 weeks old because I thought she was just a sweet lil rose bud! LOL, boy did she have us fooled! (JK) and Bear came to us with the name of Lil Bear and we just dropped the Lil and kept him as Bear to avoid confusing him since he'd already gone thru 5 other homes in as many months before he landed with us.

I was going to name our little diva Tinkerbell, but when we met her, we knew she was not a Tink and was a Roxi instead...it just fit her attitude and personality.

I named my first Pug "Suki" because it's oriental and means "beloved." I originally thought it was a Chinese name, but later learned the origins are Japanese. We allowed Milo to keep the name he had when we rescued him. His name was the only thing he had to call his own when he became ours, and it just seemed fitting that he should be able to keep something that was his. I know alot of people feel a dog needs a new name to start a new life, but I didn't feel that way.
Unseen they suffer, Unheard they cry.
In agony they linger, In loneliness they die.
    Please adopt. Don't Buy.

    Huron is after Lake Huron
Badger we wanted to stay with the nature theme
Raven nature...from Edgar Allan Poe. LOL!!!
    Willow...the tree
Boots came with his name so I added Mr. to it= Mr. Boots
    Gauge .....hunting
Bugsy...his name was Puggy...we changed it
Angel....her name was Shenanigans....the rescue called her Nannie...we called my strict, southern Grandmother Nannie I could not call her that! It seemed sacreligious..LOL!! We picked her up on the 23rd of Dec. so we renamed her Angel.

Buddy was originally named "Ben". He had a brother at the rescue place that he did not get along with that was named "Jerry". So when we brought Buddy home we re-named him. As you can see we aren't at all creative with names... LOL!! But he does have lots of nicknames.

Oscar was a tough one for us. We didn't have a lot of background on him. At first I didn't like his name. We tried different ones over the course of a week and came up with nothing that suited him. So we decided to keep it. Oscar he is, and he finally knows his name. At first he didn't even look at us when we would say it. Now he's like "what?" and looks right at us when we call him.

I love nicknames though!! Some of Buddy's are:

    Booty
    Buddhist
    Buddha
    Booty Bear
    Boodister

    And Oscar's:

Oscar P. Coltrain (like The Dukes of Hazzard "Roscoe")
    Stinky
Stinky Butt (because he has audible farts!)

    Good poll!!

When I adopted my Pug her name was Onyx. I changed it to Olive, which I've been told fits her.

There is at least one other PV Olive on here.

Marty was named after a good friend.
Peaches was named when we got her.
Jake and Bugsy, the brothers, were also named when we got them.
    Kobe also was already named.
Bear too had his moniker when we got him, though his ful name was Gilbear, it was a pain to say so everyone just calls him BeaR OR bEAR-BEAR.
Momma I named because it was obvious she had given birth to a few litters.
Liberty was named when we got her, but I call her Libby.
Sweetpea I named because she was sweet and cute, like the flower.

    Take care,
    Lisa

Winnie was named after her Uncle, Winston (so-called after Winston Churchill). He was the first Pug I properly 'met' and I had to continue his legacy. Winston is happily repatriated from Cyprus back to the UK now, his namesake's homeland!

We wanted a round name for a round little dog, so it was going to be Oliver or Otto. Otto responded more enthusiastically to Otto, so that was that. Once we had the "Otto", could help but add "von Bismarck" since my husband and son are history buffs. The real Bismarck was a prince by hereditary rank, a Chancellor by appointment, but I used Baron for our pug because I liked the sound better, even if it wasn't historically accurate.

And Otto knows that when he's being called "Baron", he is in BIG trouble!
