Default Laser POINTERS...ever tried one on your pug?

I got a laser point for my deaf bulldog. he totally goes nuts over it. likely the light that gets his other senses going. my female bulldog love it too. great excersise for them to chase something as well. they love that red dot...

as for the pugs the ONLY one that like the pointer is Max. but Max is also the most playful pug here as well.. he just loves to play play play...the whole day...

I really fancied trying laser pointer but was put off after reading this.

only so much time really. not something I use alot but on occasion maybe.
I have had them for over 20 years and never seen any issue with them..in fact many dogs do not even care to use it........like now........3 of the pugs could care less ......and only Max..

Rosiepug, I didn't read the entire OCD article, but enough to get the gist that the author believes laser pointers can encourage OCD light/shadow chasing. I totally agree that it can. Daisy is an OCD licker, so we know she has OCD tendancies. Several years ago we purchased a laser pointer, but after only a few sessions with it we had to put it away. Daisy loved to chase it - I mean loved it! To the point that if we got the laser pointer out even for a few minutes, Daisy would spend the rest of the day laying near the spot where she last saw it - looking for it. She could not be distracted to leave that spot - not even for food or high value treats. Additionally, if we went near the place where the pointer was kept she would immediately go on alert and would spend hours waiting for it to appear. And finally, to this day, I am unable to use a flashlight for anything because she transferred that behavior to a flashlight.

Huckstable loves to chase the light, but does not have the OCD tendancies, so the OCD behavior associated with laser pointers is not universal, it depends on the pug. After our experience with Daisy though, I would never risk it with another pug.

It's the only way Angel will run! LOL!!! All of them love to chase it but I have to pick pairs and either crate or let the others out. We have to take turns otherwise it turns into a fight (with Willow around). So it isn't used very often.

I think if it is not used to the extreme............should be ok
had one here for 20 plus years with no issues and there were different breeds that used it..

I can see it becoming a problem for some dogs and might have to stop using it...but sparingly here and there..do not see an issue

We have one that we had had for years for our cats. Oscar loves it and will chase it around and try to pounce on it. Buddy doesn't seem to see it, or care about it if he does. The cats go nuts for it though!

I had one for the cats and tried it with the Pugs and Rosie went totally bonkers chasing it! The hubby told me it was mean to tease her with it so I haven't done it since! but she sure had fun LOL!

Otto goes CRAZY over the laser light....although I don't know where I put it (I must have cleaned house or something), so he hasn't seen it in months.
