Default Peanut Butter from KONG + Carpet= disaster

    Hi guys!
I give my baby a KONG w/ peanut butter every morning before I go to work... although it's great because she doesn't even care that I am walking out the door, I am starting to pay the price on the carpet. Since she is a free roaming apartment pug the stains are everywhere!

Does anyone know of some magic cleaner to help clean the stains on my sand colored carpet?

    Thx.
    Adine

Sounds like a question for Lisa, 6 beautiful pugs. She has a pro carpet cleaning company and I'm sure she'd be able to advise you.

Peanut butter is a combination of an oily stain and a protein stain, depending what brand it is, there may sugar in there as well.

The protein and sugar are generally easily removed with most all-purpose spotters, however the oily component (while looking clean) will remain to attract soil and cause rapid re-soiling.

Ideally, you should call a professional cleaner with a truckmount and high heat capability, who would quickly remove all traces.

But I'm assuming you are looking for a DIY fix, so...get a liquid dishwashing detergent, preferably Dawn. These are formulated to break the bonds of food oils (different component than machine oils). Put just a couple drops in a cup and add very hot water. Apply to your carpet with a sponge. agitate lightly with your fingers. DON'T SCRUB!!!!! Use an absorbent towel to blot up all of it you can. Then apply a mixture of white vinegar and water, (half and half). With a clean sponge and blot up with a clean towel.

The detergent will remove the oil and the vinegar will neutralize the detergent, so that no residue should remain.

NEVER, EVER scrub carpet. It frays the ends of the fibers. Also look for vacuums which have beater bars instead of brushes for the same reason. Most don't realize the Dyson vacuum voids many carpet warranties because of it's aggressive brushes. Sure it gets the hair and gunk out, but it tears up and wears out the carpet prematurely.

    Take care,

    Great Information Lisa.

Just want to let you know that my Dyson has beater bars. A large one for carpets and a small one for upholstery.

Another thought....confine your baby and her Kong to a crate or hard surface area while she chews.

Jacqueline, really? They must be different in Europe than here in the US. That or you got an optional upgrade. In the States, the Animal version of the Dyson is the worst offender, with very stiff brushes, designed to dig out deeply embedded pet hair. Which it does well.....at the expense of the carpet life.
