Default HOW SMART is YOUR PUG?? add your pug/pugs

there was a great show on tv last night on an educational channel and they used the pug for this since the breed is very old. they were talking about how smart the pug is and dogs in general.
pugs are known in the past to warn of earth quakes tornado's and so on..have been credited with saving lives and such too. pretty impressive.

but we all have smart stories of our own pugs too...so thought it might be neat to share some of these

when Max first arrived as an abused dog he had no IDEA what play was at all... then he discoverd that going out the back he could run and chase the ball with Bella and have a good time out there. Well he also knew that I went out there with him and only out the back door. he would litterally GO and put my shoes by the back door to go out..lol. smart little guy. he still will put the shoes by the door here on occasion too.
being a therapy dog has shown me just how smart Max is....and how much in tune he is to the outside world.

Zeus is very introverted and likely the smartest dog on the planet...there is nothing he can not do if he sets his mind to it..but one of the smartest and funniest things about him is the ability to get the PUDGIE BODY of his...lol and Sit pretty. quite the balancing act to be honest..... he is also very smart when it comes to eating an apple. he will put it between his paws and turn the apple and leave the core..lol

lets hear some smart pug stories

If cookie gets food on her face that she can't lick off, she wil wipe her paws on her face so she can lick it off her legs.

She can sit, stay, lie down, roll over, play dead and give paw.

When she wins a rosette in a show, she will carry it in her mouth for a lap of honour

She can get in, under, over or round anything, and can get out of any collar / harness.

When she wants to go out, she will either sit on me (I take her out, and she is very much my OH's shadow and never stays with me voluntarily) or will go sit next to my shoes, her lead or the door.

We have a bright pink plastic fork we use to dish up cookies meat, she started picking it up and bringing it to us when she wants feeding!

ooh I'm jealous. I know my Doug is only a puppy still, but I can't help thinking that he may be just a little dim. We've only managed to teach him 'sit' and 'leave it'. I've worked for months on 'lie down' or 'down' to no real effect. I'm honestly starting to think its just a bit beyond him. ah well...

Looking forward to more smart pug stories.

will add my little blind rescue that Lives with my son. he raised him and kept him .....but Otis is awesome and smart for a blind pug. been that way his whole life...

he can actually get on the table and eat a pound of butter..lol but can not get down so he gets caught......all chairs are in if he comes to visit

he also one time in the other house had to get some things replaced on the pannel box...and the power was out and the basement BLACK. the guy came to do it ..the electrian and OTIS just followed him to the basement. we were laughing cause we were all really NOT oriented down there. the electrican laughed at him too. he acting like what is up with the rest of you..lol

he could also use his scent to find anything on the floor or anywhere that smelled like food. he stole the sub from my son.......from the floor. told him watch out for otis and then it was gone...........lol

will add another smart dog story..although a boston terrier. my son was small small and was choking in the bed at night.....he took a candy up there to bed and was not supposed too..she JUMPED up the side of the bunkbed and screamed...and screamed. by the time I got in there..Gord was turning Blue..in the face. I did the manover and got out the candy. AFTER that day she NEVER slept anyhere but on a bed...lol.
she was a smart little dog though and she did this just after injuring her spine with a spinal infarct...........and paralized limbs shortly before.....

she also went into the water one time and YANKED out all 3 sons by their swimming shorts..........the water was too rough and in she went......and that was just after her accident with her spine too.. she was 13 pounds..

    .................................................. ......

now a smart bulldog story about Gus. it was crappy outside and raining and for some reason out of the blue...Gus grabbed me by the arm and wanted me to go to the basement. I followed him but seriously no idea why..lol. he would NOT let me back up for a few hours........so stayed on the couch. the power was out at the time in the house due to the storm. later to find out that they were calling for tornado warnings at the same time. Gus is deaf so the outside thiunder did not give that away. pretty smart for a deaf dog

Minni is really smart. For example when we are getting ready to go outside, she will always stop two steps higher than me, regardless of which step I'm on, so I can attach her leash easily. Ray on the other hand is really cute if you know what I mean. LOL!!

Wally is incredibly bright, he learns new things after one repetition and generalizes learning to new situations.

Bless Leto's soul, he's dumber than a box of hammers. I took him to the stable without Wally one day, and he couldn't even figure out how to initiate interaction with the other dogs. He just staggered around the field aimlessly, falling in puddles, thoroughly enjoying himself, and I think he was especially enjoying the feeling of the wind rushing in one ear and out the other.

We've taken to calling them Puggie and the Brain.

last night Max decided that the teddy bear I am using for my costume this christmas was out to get him.........he does not usually bark unless something really gets him going.......lol. I had to laugh though........he was soo upset with the bear for some reason. he raised such a fuss that caused Bella to come to his rescue and she did not like the bear either..... I am sure Max can put out vibes and talk to bulldogs..lol.

on the odd side of smart......lol. both pugs have come to the conclusion that Clementimes are like the size of a small KONG ball....so they have been taking them and playing with them............one extreme to the other side of things.. PUGS are clowns though...
