Tuff makes a growl-like sound when he's getting some good pettin's, so it's really more like he's purring. I did not realize he could HOWL, however, until my smoke alarm went off by accident one morning! :-O

It is not the tail wagging that you watch for, but how it is wagging ... and with us pugs, it is hard to tell! Much easier to watch a German Shephard tail to see if it is high or low, bent or straight to see what the wagging means.
I like to growl ... if there is a noise I don't know, if my sister walks too close to my food bowl. But if that strange brother of mine (the one that poops in a box) goes to my food bowl, I think it is safest to let him. After all, he usually bops me on the head if he doesn't like what I am doing ... I mean isn't his tail swinging so that I can play fetch with it? Apparently, he doesn't think so, and then he bops me on the head. SIGH

Oh HOWLING IS FUN!!! I am never allowed to do that BUT if I am at my human grandma's and I am with all my blood relatives and if the humans go outside, we all sit at the glass door together and I get to HOWL ... I through my head back like a coyote and just go at it!!!!
Sometimes my human mommy says I am purring. I make some silly noises when I am all content and curled up and getting pet ... most embarrassing actually

you really do need to hear Max HOWL........you can hear him from far away..lol
he can growl but howling is what he does best
he seldom barks......not sure why he howls.......
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
When my boy gets too excited when he sees another dog he sort of barks, it is not normal, it sounds more like a pig squeling.
Almost like screaming.
