Has anyone here gotten rid of their crate when their pug was potty trained? I have a small condo and the crate is an eyesore in the living room, even though I got a nice cover for it. I was hoping to move on to a doggy bed once she's potty trained.

I have a crate here and the door is always open
they treat it as their den
they all use it at times to sleep in
I used to put the crate beside the bed when they were smaller..if I heard them peep I took them right out
I did not let them sleep in the bed till they were a bit bigger
the bulldogs on the other hand well Gus he was fine in a puppy playpen at night but Bella screamed..she was already sleeping in someones bed at the breeder..she went straight to the bed and did fine but she was much larger and much heaver then a tiny pug.
A pugs world is full of play and sleep and of course good food.........
She hates peeing where she sleeps whether it is in a basket or anywhere else. She prefers the plushy grass like carpet, HA. She is doing excellent though on her puppy pad. She only peed once on the carpet today because I didn't put a new pad out (oops, my bad). As long as we get her out in time she does great outside. But it does need a little work but nothing unexpected from her age.
I was thinking of using the crate when she is doing the biting thing. But I also want th crate to be her safe place. I feel like if I put her in there when she is being naughty that she will always associate it as punishment. This could cause problems with vets... so Im not sure. I have been putting her in a basket with a bone and her duck toy, but the cats taught her how to flip it over to get out.
Last night she was in our bed again and only woke up twice to go to bed. The rest of the night was spent snuggling around on our faces and pillows and under the covers. ONe time she snuck away from Jacob and made it to the end of the bed. Since our bed is high that is a BIG concern. So Im going too maybe try something different. If she is not already asleep when going in the crate she cries and cries. She only lasts about an hour in there. As soon as she sees the bars she is crying and Jacob can't stand to hear her cry so he takes her out. She is really good at sounding pathetic. Trying to come up with a fool proof plan tonight that will make us all happy. I like my sleep and eventually Jacob will get tired of being the one letting me sleep LOL.
Thank you guys!

I'd never bring a puppy home intentionally before 10 weeks. Not tiny anymore and Mom has done the weaning.
I am not advocating leaving a pup in their kennel for hours - that is foolish. I want them contained so there are no accidents in places unsupervised. *That* is what teaches them it is fine and dandy to poop and pee indoors. With a schedule, and supervision (via a crate or xpen, and a leash, and vigilence) - potty training is not rocket science.
BUT ... I am the Human and they are the beloved Pet, and they need to adapt to my world, not vice versa. My pack have me wrapped around there paws. I would do anything for them to be happy. They eat first, and my room looks more like a doggie daycare than a Bedroom ... but I rank first and foremost in the House.

Nope ... the crates are stacked 2x2 in what will be my Dining Room. Eventually, I think they will be in the Great room - maybe. They used to be in my bedroom at the old house. two in my closet and two stacked against the wall in the corner. Crates are a permanent fixture here.

I'm not a fan of crating at all.I instead like to use baby gates and give them a bit more room.

My dogs all sleep with me, including the puppy who curls up beside me under the covers. I have a crate in the bedroom and 3 in the kitchen (it's a big kitchen) whose doors are always open. They go into those to snooze very often, sometimes with a buddy and sometimes alone. They potty outside but if they are caught short when I'm out for a while or if the weather is bitterly cold, they potty on the newspapers down the hall in the laundry room. Puppy Max is learning indoor and outdoor since he, like most short-hair chihuahuas, are very intolerant of the cold weather.

Either Holmes or Moriarty are crated during the night, both crated when I leave the house. Crate training is part of a dog's growing up, and essential for travel, vet trips, handymen in the house or unwanted company on the holidays.
My pug Gok was terrible for marking and constantly weeing all over the house so I brought a crate and put him in it at night and during the day when im out and he loves it... he is happy as larry in there and now even shares it with our new pug Pom...who also is more then happy in there. Theres no more weeing for marking my furniture...a crate is definitely the way forward.
Good luck
I have a multi-purpose carrier that is airline approved so I won't need a crate for any travel. I live in a small condo. We don't have unwanted company. :)
