this has been a challenge to teach the pugs any tricks. they are food driven but stubborn.........lol big time too. Zeus refused to shake a paw forever.....he sits really pretty though and up on his hind legs.....never had a dog that could sit pretty like that. Zeus is finally shaking paw now....but sure he felt that was for puppies only..lol.
Max can sit..and if I say you are sitting lazy Max if he is in the pug slouch.......he will sit really straight and tall..lol.he can shake one paw and then the other and stay and come and down... he will not sit pretty but he does most of all the other things. he was much easier to train to do them then Zeus.. Tell Max to go and get a ball and he always does. tell him oh not that one........lol and eventually he finds every ball in here and puts them in a pile......cracks me up laughing..
Gus considering he is deaf.........can go down, stay and shake a paw and then the other paw.........he was really easy to train once I found out to teach him some hand signs.
Gus always does the sign when the sign is done..........the pugs do as they want on their time usually.....lol
bulldogs are supposed to be really stubborn but find the pugs far more stubborn then Gus..

I have Spud in training right now and until lay down he has been doing amazing. He isn't insanely food driven so drop it and leave it he is great at. Sits greats comes when called but laying down sucks. The trainer said for problems with lay down bring a bunch of treats and the dog in the bathroom and don't pay attention to him and when he lays on his own say the command and then toss a treat where they have to get up. Ive done it a bit now, I will have to more but I need to have his dog bed in there, and he will figure it out I need to lay down for a treat but he isn't getting that lay means lay yet. It sucks to have something that is hard to get because sitting in the bathroom for 30 min to 45 min is boring
lol agree
an easy way is to put them in the down position and say DOWN. I had to teach my deaf dog to lay down asap. he is doing it by sign language. if I point to the floor and the pugs do it too.....down he goes. it has worked like a charm from day one. he learned to shake a paw and then the other paw and sit and stay and no and leave it....and down and come all without one day of sign language. up until then he was 2 when I found out Gus was deaf.........he did nothing since he could not hear...... come was easiest to teach him of all the things he can do. he is amazing with signs.
the pugs know the signs too but only on their terms......lol

Gracie is deaf and hand signs work for her the other 2 just look at me like I a crazy.
I got Pug when I was 16, so I had a lot of spare time to train him tricks lol I taught him how to stand on his hind legs and spin in a circle, which he still does, only now he doesn't stand on his hind legs, he just spins around on all 4) . He could jump through a hula hoop *too old for the jumping now* , he knows down, sit, stay, shake, and high five. (shake and high five are the same, just holding your hand higher lol) I could never teach him "speak"....He does know "get out" and walks out of the room. Once Ellie has her surgery and is healing, I plan on taking some time to teach her a few tricks. :)
We have worked hard at it, but Nano is doing well with his tricks :) He can: sit, stay, come, wait, lay down, shake paw, then shake other paw, give high fives, and sit pretty. He will not roll over, even though he loves belly rubs, and plays on his back all the time. We're working on that one, and i'm sure it will come. I'm very proud of his progress, but if we're around new people or dogs, he really struggles to do anything past sit, as he gets too excited haha. We've assigned signs to almost all of the commands he knows, just to be on the safe side if anything ever happened to his hearing.
Does anyone have pictures of videos of their pugs doing tricks? I will try to get some of Nano :)

the only dog that I ever had that would do it..
Gus will roll have half way but not all the way....
