My vet gave a woman in dire straits my number. She called me. She has three pugs to surrender. They are losing their house and her husband has cancer and are moving in with his elderly parents. They are in their 50's I would say, the parents are in their 80's. The parents will not have indoor dogs and also have mobility issues, so tripping is a concern.
I picked them up yesterday. She and her husband are devastated. She has had all of them since they were pups. They are all healthy and well cared for, except for being over-indulged with food. They are all social, affectionate, beautiful and happy. They love all people and other dogs and cats....
Her husband, nearly skeletally thin, with bandages and bruises from the frequent blood draws and IV's sat on the couch quietly, tears streaming down his hollow cheeks. The woman alternated between wracking sobs and busy work, getting all of their papers, food, bowls, beds and toys together. My daughter's car was filled to the brim with accessories and then each dog gave Mom and Dad a last kiss and I gave her and her husband hugs. Then we drove off. She stood sobbing in the driveway.
I delivered two of them to their fosters yesterday, one stayed the night and is going this morning. The lady called me when I was on my way home wanting to make sure they had tolerated the ride okay and were settling in their foster homes. I assured her they were well and she cried again.
It's easy to take a dog from a shelter or from people who don't want or love them....but so hard to take them from a loving home....... I HATE doing owner surrenders like this.
Little Lady is sitting at my feet now, confused and a little stressed. She refused dinner and ate breakfast sparingly. She follows me around the house with questioning, sad eyes....missing her brother and sister and people I'm sure. I know we will find them great homes and they will be okay, it's their people I really worry about.
Take care,
Lisa

Oh Lisa, reading this has the tears flowing just because I can only imagine the pain those poor people are feeling! It's bad enough to have to go thru all of the personal trials, but to have to give up their 3 dogs, who they obviously love with all their hearts, unbearable...
God Bless you for finding the dogs wonderful homes and them for the rough journey they have ahead of them~

Very sad for everyone. I hope they are all able to find loving homes and peace for the family who had to give them up.

Oh my gosh, that is just so sad. My heart just breaks for these sweet people, having to go through battling cancer and having to give up thier precious babies. Thank you so much for taking care of thier pugs and making sure they are loved. I'm sure that helps their people feel a little better.

My heart aches for those people....and others that are having to give up their pups due to illness or the economy!!!! So very hard!
Bless you, Lisa....and other rescues for being their for these people and their babies!
I hate those good byes, I always wave the pug's paw and call goodbye, but four times in the last several years I have seen sobbing children plastered against car windows and the drifting sounds of their voices calling for the dog they will never see again. I wonder what memories filter through the years.
OMG! I am sitting here crying like a baby. This shows just how cruel life can be. These people most likely would give the shirt off their back and look at the cards they are dealt while there are animal and child abusers and murderes walking free without a care in the world and in good health. I just dont get it.
I will pray for this special couple. This is just so heartbreaking :(

The saddest thing of all is that the lady will no longer have her pugs to comfort her when her husband passes.
Heartbreaking.
