    Default Fostering Home Visit Questions

    Hello everybody,
I'm about to panic! My home visit to be a foster family is in 3 days!! I have some questions for you experts out there:
I know they will basically be looking to make sure our home is SAFE for the pugs, but will they be wanting to go in every single room? Like for example, will they want to go into our bedroom and my master bathroom that you go through our bedroom to get to? I mean, the pugs are not ever in there anyway because we keep the doors closed to keep them out. The same thing goes for Jamie's bedroom. Will they want to see all of them? Just curious!!
Saturday we are building a huge fenced in area straight off the porch of our backdoor for the pugs. My parents are coming to help with that and to help me make sure there's nothing unsafe that I am missing! I just hope this whole thing goes well. Please say a little prayer for us!!
    Any last minute advice??

I don't go in evey room. More concerned with yard and living areas.

I go EVERYWHERE. Want to make sure there are no grow ops, etc. (it has happened!). And I'm pretty picky about cleanliness as well as safety - it's indicative of the owner's level of responsibility. Having said that, I did a home visit last night (for a potential adopter of another breed) where the single gentleman's house was MUCH cleaner and tidier than my own. 'Course he doesn't have a gang of shedding pugs. LOL

LOL! I don't mind if they go everywhere, I just want to know what to expect. Plus, I just need to know whether to make my bed or not! Just kidding!

I'm actually more worried if a potential foster family is too clean....I prefer to see a home that looks like a dog is living there. Of course maybe I'm just making excuses because my house is usually in an extreme need of cleaning!

LOL....me too!!!! I watch little things...like how people are about dog hair....etc!!!!

Really...I just want to see where the dog will be living.....and wanting to make sure that it's safe...and not being put in a basement or garage!

I also talk to the people and get a feel for them!

The woman who did our home inspection for rescuing Leto is a neighbour who has known me since I was about 2.... she was embarrassed to go snooping about and I was worried that she was going to find the dustbunnies under the bed. Needless to say, we passed. :)

    Best of luck!!!

    Relax, you'll be fine.

I notice you have labs and a boxer. If I was doing your home check I would bring along my most alpha dog (preferably the same sex as the big dogs) that way if the bigs are going to have issues with a pug it is more likely to show up....I ALWAYS bring a dog to home checks. I'm going to be much more concerned with the big dog than I am with how tidy your house is.

I would observe your level of control over the large dogs and how well trained they are. I would ask you about if you feed or treat the large dogs with the smalls, etc. Where they all are when you aren't home, etc. and would caution you to NEVER feed them or leave them alone with a foster, no matter how good they are....unless the big dogs are ancient.

    Take care,
    Lisa
