Poor Cleo is having a lot of trouble breathing. No doubt the stress of moving has taken it's toll on her fragile airway. I don't want to stress her further by taking her to the emergency vet, so I've given her a benadryl, 10 mg. of prednisone, a cough supressant and now Sammy and Bailey and I are watching over her through the night. He is curled up asleep a foot away. She is stretched out on the tile, but every breath is a struggle for the poor old girl. I siay next to her petting her when she has a bad spell, watching her sides heave as she struggles to draw breath. Then as she slips into more peaceful phases. Hope the prednisone works it's magic and she can breathe easier by morning....it will be a long night.

Oh nuts. Now I am filling up at work. I don't think I have the words to say what I am feeling. Thank you for posting the photos even though they made me do a little cry. I hope you and your pair managed some rest last night xx
Tears for breakfast. Hoping for the best for all three of you. Please thank your family for letting Cleo and Sammy borrow you for the night.
I am so thankful for all you do for all these pugs you help Lisa please let us know how the pair do after there vet visit and the black puggie
Around 2-2:30 this morning, the prednisone began to work and her breathing became a little easier. She was able to sleep and I slept on the floor in the living room next to her. This morning she ate her breakfast, went out and pottied and, although she is still coughing and hacking frequently, I'm not worried she will die in the next hour. I gave her another 10 mg. pred., more benadryl and cough suppressant and am going to take her to my vet this morning, he is close by, the rescue's vet is almost 2 hours away and I won't stress her to go that far, especially without her beloved Sammy.
She is very bonded to him. If he gets up and walks around, she will attempt to follow him, even in the midst of a horrible breathing spell. When she can, she sleeps very close to him and nuzzles and licks his ears and face a lot.
She has found the Cool bed in the office and is happily stretched out on that right now, chewing on an old marrow bone.
We found someone to foster them, but I'm afraid the trip down to San Diego and another move would be too much for her, so for now they will stay here.
Take care,
Lisa

For whatever reason, this one touches me deeply. Sugar, now asleep on her cool bed, suggests a fan to go with the marrow bone. Hang tough, you prince and princess of the desert.
Poor Cleo may keep her legs that way because it makes it easier to breathe. At her age, there is no telling what could be causing her to struggle to breathe. Her extra weight, trachea problems, heart problems, lung problems or larynx paralysis.
These poor babies deserve better then they have had. Thanks for getting them and allowing them to know love and peace no matter how little or how long they have.

"Poor Cleo may keep her legs that way because it makes it easier to breathe" YES!! That's exactly what the vet says.
He said he's surprised she is still alive. He agrees that it is probably trachea or other physical obstruction, definitely not kennel cough or pneumonia, he gave her more pred and a bronchiodialator along with cough supressant. With instructions to get her weight down and keep her out of the heat, keep her stress as low as possible and no exercise other than what she needs to to potty and pitter around the house.
The male is in better shape. He said his heart and lungs sound great. He feels the tumor is not rooted in the muscle. Although it may be cancer, he said it could be 2 years before it gets to a point that it affects him more. He is wracked with severe arthritis. He did bloodwork to check his liver function and prescribed rimadyl for his pain, with a tramadol boost as needed.
They are back home now, resting. can't get the male to take his pills for nothing. tried wrapping them in cheese, hamburger, peanut butter and putting it directly down his throat....all to no avail, so I need to go get some liverwurst to try next.
