Default Bonded Pair: 13 and 11

We are getting a bonded pair of seniors in tomorrow. Owner relinquishment. I'm driving 5 hours roundtrip to Simi Valley to pick them up. She says family came and dumped the dogs with her and she can't care for them.

A 13 year old male and 11 year old female. Both have limited vision and hearing and are inseparable. They also are weak in the rear and "might" be incontinent sometimes according to the relinquishing party. She says it's hard to tell because they are outdoors........sigh.

I guess they will rest their paws at my place until a forever foster can be found for them. Poor old dears.

I'll post some pictures after I pick them up. When will people learn that they have a responsibility to their elderly dogs to see their care through till the end, not just as long as it's convenient?

    Take care,
    Lisa

How sad that the owners would give them up at that age or any age:( Glad they have you to see they are taken care of. How is Ziggy doing?

Thank you for going, sweetie. One wishes the same fate for the relinquishing party, eternity in the heat.

Christa, Ziggy is doing great! he had a pretty severe ear infection in both ears, but is being treated for that. He is so friendly with everyone, quite a rockstar personality!

I'm a first time dog owner and even so can't imagine how a people can be so cold hearted...your dog is not only your family but also your responsibility...ridiculous...

Thank you Lisa for having such a big heart!

Good luck with the pick up and a thank you from me as well. I know you don't do it for thanks but I am touched by just how much you do. In the short time I've been on here I have lost count of the number of dogs that you and others have rescued. Thank the lord there are people like you around x

I hope the pair are fine, give them a big stroke from me x

Oh these poor babies...the owner only had them a month, family dumped them on her because she has a pug. But her pug has a liver shunt and she has a yorkie and a great dane, and said she can't care for them.

Cleo, the female. The owner doesn't even know if she's spayed or not. She is very overweight, her fromt legs seem like they give her a lot of pain, she holds them out from her body in a bulldog stance. She has a chronic cough, which I'm afraid is a collapsing trachea, as she's had it as long as the lady has had them and the previous owners told her "she just does that". Her boobies hang low and long....but she has the softest, most luxurious coat ever. And is very friendly.

Sammy, the male, has a very large lump on his right shoulder, the skin is thickened there and it is large and goes deep it is firm and immovable, it seems rooted to both the skin and the muscle....when he walks that shoulder dips and it seems to hurt him. He walks with a slight hunch back, has a few smaller lumps as well, he just looks like he hurts. I'm afraid his lump/tumor is cancer. At 13, they won't do surgery so we will be at a point of trying to make him comfortable.

They have an appointment with the vet Thursday morning.

I've left them in our bedroom together to relax and acclimate. They sleep cuddled close together.

I'm afraid neither of them has too long....

    Will post pictures.

Going to LA tomorrow to pick up a black male found on the freeway......lady saved him from being hit and called us.

    Take care,
    Lisa

Thankfully, they will live together in comfort and die together in peace. No one could do more for them than that. Hugs for rescuing those two gallent campaigners. Usually dogs like that belonged to loving owners who grew old and were institutionalized by their greedy and impatient children. Then the children assure the old people that the dogs were fine, while kicking the dogs to the curb. Rescue is an uphill struggle. Praise be the Rescue Roadster.

Perhaps a diet plan for Ms. Cleo, overweight and chronic cough, of course go hand in hand. I wonder if your vet can slip you some pain pills for the old man.

Bath tomorrow and nail clipping. Bet those claws are nine inch nails. You can see where I am going with this--Just hoping to clutter up your home with two wanderers who want to be painfree and full of Ziwi Peak.
