I have heard rumors, from a good source, that DFW Pug rescue is going to deny me the right to attend Pug-O-Ween this and future years, because I have some intact dogs. If I can't bring them all, I'm not coming.
I donate to this group, I have given them dozens of large Vari-Kennels, I have fostered for them, and adopted from them, and now they are going to tell me, that I can't bring my little dogs, in costume, and enjoy the fun, because I show some of my dogs, and some of them are intact?!?!
I think this is very unfair, and I am very angry about it.
Well, they don't have to worry..........I won't be there this year, because of dog show conflicts, but I probably won't be there in future years, from now on, either. If this rumor is true, they have recieved my last dollar, my last recommendation to others as a place to go to get a nice dog, and my support.

I looked on the website and it says all breed welcome, all dogs must be spayed or neutered....i don't know what to tell ya...I've gotta work at the church that morning then my Steelers come on and it will be our first game with Big Ben back.
I can see why they want all dogs to be spayed or neutered but didn't you have a little set up for them last year....since there are so many so you could keep better control/eye on them?! Because you are a responsible pug/pet owner?! I'm sure you aren't the only one either...this has to be something that others are dealing with too - because I don't think that was a rule last year. My question is - I wonder if something happened last year that caused them to put this rule in place this year...i'd try to find others in the same boat as you and simply as them about it...b/c if something did happen last year i would understand but if they have gone 13 year without that rule why now?! Its not that you just don't want to get them "fixed" you are showing them and you are following the rules and guidelines...
I hope i didn't irk anyone - just trying to look at both sides and help someone I respect and admire...Beth I'm serious - ask some of your showing circles and see if anyone else is facing this....because i know you'd like to go and show off your crew if you didn't have showing conflicts - if they'd let you...
just my opinion!
I love my D'Arcy and Morgan!

There is no excuse for a lack of manners, and I doubt that you are going to crop your show dogs to meet their requirements. Seems like they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.
I understand that you feel hurt, it took me a while to get over the fact that rescues have their rules and that is that. Unfortunately I have different views and believe the quality of the person and care of the animals should be foremost, not if they have an animal that is intact or not. (Please don't anyone get angry at me) My animals are all fixed but I still have my opinion and I know I am not welcomed at "rescues" , too bad because I could foster , have time to donate etc, but in their eye their rules far benefit them rather than a few people like me.

I suppose someone has to ask, if the costume covers up everything, how will they know?
My daughter has a six-month-old puppy. He hasn't been neutered yet. Does this mean he can't go?

I just think this stinks! We've been attending DFW's Pug-O-Ween for over 7 years! One of our homebred puppies has been the grand prize winner several times, and always goes home to Austin with a trophy, every year. Now we won't get the chance to see what our Kiwi, and her Mom Janet, come up with every year. It's our only chance to get to see them, as they live in Austin, a 4 hour drive from us. We loved going to Pug-O-ween! It was our one big outing, with all our little kids! We so looked forward to it, every year. Oh, well............they'll never get another atta boy from me, and I have a LOT of contacts, what with showing, working for a vet, and grooming for a living. I'll send people to another rescue, I guess.
I guess now, you will have to have veterinary proof of spaying/neutering, in your hand, at the door, before you can get in????????????

First of all, why are you bashing the rescue and whining when you weren't even going to go in the first place???? You had already chose taking your dogs to a dog show rather than supporting a rescue event so I think it is really inappropriate to come here to whine about this decision on the part of rescue.
I'm not with DFW but I know that have been SWAMPED with pugs who are being dumped at record speed. Just the thought of one accidental litter being born becaue they allowed intact animals at their event would be a horrible thing to happen.
Rescue is not just about putting out the fires of placing pugs in need...it is also about education and prevention.
PLEASE do not bash rescues unless you have walked for a year or more in the shoes of someone doing intake and hearing the stories of abuse and neglect and seeing the results of these problems.
