Ok.. so yesterday morning, I'm awakened by my cell phone (and have decided to change the ring tone to something more polite than that annoying jarring jingle). I am asked if I am Kayte Jenson and of course, I am.. so I am told "Oh thank heavens I found you! Your house number no longer works and I was just given your cell number from your vet. My name is Elyse and I have two of your pugs at Clakamas County Dog Services". Interestingly enough, I am now fully awake and sitting up in bed. Clakamas County is about 130 miles south of me. I am then told the AVID number of the female, and am told the male has no microchip. I explained that if there is no chip, the male is not mine because none of my pups leave my house without a chip (for JUST this reason!) More good news.. the female is definitely pregnant! Alrighty... so I get my records and discover who the owner is (I keep records of which dog has which chip number) and call the owner. The number is disconnected. The address seems to have changed hands.. and the female (who is from my June of 09 litter) is going to be scheduled for surgery then adoption the next day. Of course, I can't let people I don't know have one of my puppies, so I told her to hold the girl and I'll be down in the afternoon to pick her up. Can we say impromptu road trip?
I picked her up (her name is Tyra) and I discover that the rescue people know her owner by name and STRONGLY urge me not to return her there. ::groan:: So I find some information out about her that I did not previously know and decide yup, she's staying with me and not being returned to her previous owner. I paid the $130 to bring her home, and she is now legally my property again. She will stay with me until her pups are born. When the pups are four months old, she'll be spayed (definitely) and re-homed (maybe). The pups will be sold for $450 and $150 of that will be returned to the owners once I have proof their pup has been spayed/neutered. (I put about $150 into each pup so please don't think I'm being money grubbing.. but I DO want them to cost enough that they will be well taken care of)
Today we went to the vet and found out that while she healthy, she is rather underweight (which we will be fixing). She is due in ABOUT three weeks (because we all know I wanted yet another litter this year.. NOT) and we've discovered she LOVES men and loves my mother. Because of my other litter at home, she is being quarantined at my mom's house til next week just in case we have an issue with bordetella.
We've discovered that she has no manners and that she is not house trained.. both of which we are going to work on. We've discovered she learns very very quickly, and is a tiny bit skittish around the pack, but not too bad. We've discovered she has no food aggression toward humans nor other dogs (YAA!!) and we've discovered she likes to chase black cats, but couldn't care less about yellow cats. (go figure)
Last night she slept all night in bed with my mom and they were both very comfortable.
Ok, I think that is everything.. if I remember more I'll add to the post later!
Have a wonderful day, everyone!!
OH! PS... the Clakamas County Dog Services people were very impressed with me LOL and I think I'll be hearing from them again, even though they are actually in a different state from me.

what did you know about the person she went to then? and what do you know now that makes you say you're not giving her back? ending up in the shelter is enough of a reason, but i wondered if there is more.
thanks for rescuing her, she fell into the right hands......a very lucky pug

If all breeders were as conscientious as you, Kayte, then there would be NO problems like unwanted pets or overpopulation! And this story is another reason why I could never, ever be a breeder. I would worry night and day about the little lives I brought into being, and how they were being treated. I know how carefully you screen the people who buy your pups, and even so, this sort of awful thing happens.
So what about the little male? I do not think I could have left him behind.
It is a very good thing you live two states over, or I would be on your doorstep, cash in hand, in a few months, looking to adopt one of those little puggies. I think my husband might disown me, and so would my mother-in-law, from whom we rent our house. Though one look at the little face and I am sure I would be forgiven.

Though, according to Mapquest, it is only 545 miles.......hm.......oh, my husband would KILL me. Like I need another dog. I have never, ever in my life sought out a dog. They just keep showing up in my life.
The rescue people know her very well because she leaves her animals outside at all times, and she loses some of them every winter due to the cold conditions and not having adequate housing. They have removed animals before, but there are new ones cropping up all the time.
What I knew about her before was that she owned a grooming service and was hoping for a show pug. That she had horses but no other animals at home. What I knew about her when she purchased my pup in 09 changed last spring when she called me flipping out because the pup had a "crooked jaw" she told me half of the dog's lower jaw protruded out terribly and she wanted her money back but did not want to surrender the dog. I told her the puppy did not have a crooked jaw when I sold her to her, and asked if she had had an accident or been kicked by a horse or hit by a car.. she hung up on me. Later she called back and apologized and admitted it was not that bad, but she was not show quality. She still did not want to surrender the dog to regain her money so decided not to worry about it. That was the last I heard from her until I got the call from the kennel.

LOL MrsGreene! You're so funny. Montana is a beautiful area and my husband delivers there often. (delivers propane, not puppies)
The little boy would have come home with me as well, except that the Officer who picked them up fell in love with him and asked if he could adopt him if I didn't mind LOL I told Elyse to let me know if for any reason that adoption fell through and I'd be back down to pick him up as one of my other puppy parents was hoping I'd bring him home so she could adopt him. In the mean time, the Officer is single and the little boy will be an "only pet" so he'll be totally spoiled and loved LOL.

Oh Kayte! You must have been so worried after you got that call. Poor little puggie girl. Did you name her Tyra or was that name given to her after she left your home?
I don't understand why people get dogs only to live outside. My puggie girl is curled up against my right thigh as I type this, her head on my leg and her body snuggled against my thigh. Most of her body is under my left leg, which I had to prop up so she could snuggle under, haha.
Oh...whew. She just laid down a stinker...I think perhaps she is still recovering from her indiscretion with the bag of dogfood we neglected to put away a few days back.
pictures??
Thank you for being responsive to an emergency. Be interesting to x ray the jaw and see what is going on, sounds like a human pug interaction to me.Good lesson to be learned about microchipping----get it done, folks and pitch microchipping to friends and family.
