Free to GREAT home! Our adorable Mylie - 5yr. old Female Shih Tzu, Sable in Color, Approx. 9 lbs.
We are in the process of remodeling our house, and we have made the decision to give Mylie away to a Great Home, who will give her lots of attention and love. She is excellent with children, and is just an adorable little Shih Tzu. We purchased her from a rescue shelter about 2 years ago, and she has had some problems with going to the bathroom in our house from time to time. This has been more our fault letting her have free roam of the house, and not being that disciplined in letting her out at set times

This is a real advertisement from Craigslist, that pulse of human and animal misery, but there is a lesson to be learned here.
Rescue people, follow up the animal placed and how it is doing. Foster Moms and Dads, if housebreaking is an issue, speak up, better a home later than a home now with unrealistic expectations. Shih Tzu are fierce little dogs, territorial and passionate about their families. I wonder how much this dog has been disciplined for not having thumbs and being able to use the knob on the back door to go outside. You will notice there is no mention of crate training or x pens, or a check up for UTI. Every dog rehomed will immediately fail housebreaking 101A, but there is a shallow contempt for a life that sets this advertisement apart. Heaven help us all, and Heaven help Mylie the ShihTzu.
**Every dog rehomed will immediately fail housebreaking 101A, **
Heck ... dogs that are moved from their home of forever to a new abode fail hb101 ... and since they are family and loved and will eventually remember their manners - it is not a big deal - mostly.
I cannot read CL for the most part for just this reason. People throwing away their pets for their own convenience.

Ceylon has generously offered a welcoming gift, a case lot of corks carved to your specifications by Taco the Dim. How you use the corks is your choice, but I could offer suggestions if nudged.
Prayers for Mylie that she will miraculously find a loving home or be snagged by a rescue.
We will be picking up a rescue pug here this week, free to a good home, listed on Kijiji.... Guess what? He was listed once before, went to his new home and failed HB101 so was returned. So the owner is trying again....

Yeah - I read a post about a lost "puppy" who was found wandering on the street last week on Craigslist. He's sitting on my couch, staring at me now. Thankfully, this little boy was found by nice folks who treated him for fleas, gave him a bath and surrendered him to the rescue. Of course, like many things on Craiglist, he's no puppy, was in pretty tough shape. After a week here at Walnut & Baby's Pug Rehab though, it's evident that he MUST have lived somewhere as he's completely housebroken - although the calluses on his elbows, his bony ribs and his patchy hair loss tells a sad story of at least neglect if not abuse. In spite of that - he's a sweetheart and waiting here for his forever home - a small rose among the larger sunflowers who live here.
At least I'm grateful for this part of Craigslist as we might never have gotten him into rescue without that found notice. But all the time we see many postings about "great dogs who love kids...." being given/sold to perfect strangers. "Rehoming fee to assure he goes to a good home" makes no sense to me either - but it's on most of the listings. I know that you cannot "sell" animals on Craigslist and this is how people get around that rule.

How could anyone not want to know where that little pug is? He is precious. In this state, many dogs dumped or dumped at the local kill shelter are the result of impatient grown children who want to dispose of mom's or dad's house and effects. And of course, dog. I would not be surprised if this is the case for your little man as well.
he's darling....are you sure he hasn't found his forever home with you?

He has the cutest little face, reminds me of a black version of one that I pulled and kept overnight recently then moved on to her regular foster, Bo Peep:

I see that her foster family adopted her!

Oh, he's the sweetest boy - but we want to share the love - we have two wonderful pugs whom we worship - you guys know that! We would not be able to bring 3 pugs to the Maine camp with us in the summers (I wouldn't even bring it up to my mom - we are the only dog owners in our entire family - both sides), and we'd literally need a bigger car (I drive a hatchback!). And if I look at it logically, I am positive there is a very nice family out there, needing him - waiting to rescue a pug like him. And sadly, there is a long line behind him - of fosters waiting to come through our Pug Rehab here! If we kept him, I would be very hesitant to do fostering - and we want to keep doing that. It's difficult - but I feel like we are doing a good thing by getting him ready for a new home. We will, for sure, miss him when he leaves though. I think we can help more in the long run by finding him a home and continuing to help the rescue by fostering. It's not for the faint of heart though. :(
