    Default First foster pug!

Tomorrow I am getting my first foster pug through the local pug rescue! Her name is Jasmine and she's seven years old. I hope my Beefy doesn't pester her to death! Jasmine is reportedly very overweight, so I will be putting her on a diet immediately. I'll take some pictures of her as soon as I get her home. The rescue feeds their dogs Innova and I've honestly never had to deal with an overweight dog before as Beefy is on a very strict diet and gets regular exercise... So, I'm curious about the best way to start her diet/exercise regimen... any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm not really sure what to tell you about diet and exercise other than the usual--careful on the length of the walks--especially with a 7 year old, but my old boys still love their walks, they just can't go as far. They are in great shape though, but they do get a measured amount of food twice a day.

On another note....CONGRATULATIONS on your first foster! You don't even know what you are in for. It is the BEST experience ever, and loving that dog, then finally finding that right person to match them up with is so rewarding, especially if you occasionally get a picture or something. I have adored every foster we have had--How could you not? I have driven them to kingdom come to get medical care and have loved every minute of it knowing that my foster was safe now, and going to live the dream now that he/she had been rescued.

Hope your experience is as great as mine has been. Welcome to the fostering family!

Congrats! Fostering is great - we have two of our own pugs and two (new) fosters. Both are 8. My advice about the "diet" is just cut back on portion and walk. Take it slow - how big is Jasmine? Our Wally came to us 33 lbs. He's about 23/24 lbs now. We did it with lots of exercise and a reduced, high quality food. We supplement with pumpkin. So go slow, I'm sure you'll do fine. Give her plenty of opportunity to pee outside, and crate her when you go out til you've had her a bit and figure out what she'll do if left loose. Have fun!

    How exciting!
    Kudos to you for fostering!
I would foster in a heartbeat if I was in the position to.

Not sure exactly how big she is yet, but the woman in charge of the rescue told me she is FAT but spunky! I'll definitely get some pics up tomorrow after I pick her up!
