Today I took Miss Melly for a trial with a possible adopter. I really hope it works out for Melly and the elderly lady who wants to adopt her.
I picked up this little guy at the Lake Elsinore shelter. His name is Odie and he is very happy and friendly, but does need to lose a few pounds. Just look at that smile!:
I visited this bonded pair at the same shelter, they are not ready to be released to rescue yet, but we are working on a foster who will take them both, so hopefully we will get them soon. Their names are Sumba and Chewy:

A year or so ago I pulled a fawn male pug from the San Bernardino shelter. He was supposed to be 7 and healthy, but when they brought him to me it was obvious that he was MUCH older and had "issues". He had an underbite with cruddy teeth that stuck out at all angles...it was adorable and disgusting at the same time. He was weak in the rear and kind of tottered as he walked.
He was going to a brand new foster, Kelley, and as I handed him over, I warned her that since he is much older, he may not get adopted. She hugged him close and said that she would give him whatever he needed. I heard that she adopted him and I saw him at one of the events getting a doggie massage. The vet estimated he was 14 years old. They were able to successfully do a dental on him and he lost all but 4 of his teeth.
Fast forward to the day I pulled Odie. At the shelter they had tagged him with the name "Sebastian". His owner had called and said she was going to come get him, but never did. While I was filling out the paperwork to pull him, she called back again, afraid he was going to be euthanized. She claimed she had rescued him and he had "gotten away from her". She didn't want him back, but didn't want him put down. The shelter staff told her he was being adopted by rescue at that very moment. She told them his name is Odie.
So once I had Odie in hand, I called the foster to let her know I had him and give her a quick rundown on him. I told her about his strange previous owner and let her know she had relayed that his name is Odie. She exclaimed..."Oh My God!!" and began to cry. It seems she was that brand new foster from a year ago that I had handed the little old man with the crooked teeth to. They had named him Odie and she and her husband had fallen desperately, head over heels in love with him. They took him everywhere with them, and if they couldn't take him, they cancelled the trip. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor but with their good care (her husband is a doctor) he lived another 6 months until it spread to his liver he passed away in her arms just a couple months ago. Now here I was bringing her another Odie.
Life is so strange and wonderful, isn't it?
Take care,
Lisa

Odie looks like my Gracie we just adopted a couple months ago. They both have the same amount of white around the mouth and chin. She was chubby when we got her too, but has lost 2 Pounds and settled in nicely. Odie is a handsome boy and I'm so glad he is going to a great foster home that will give him tender loving care. Yes life is pretty strange some times.
